Epic Games store - my support decreasing.

Epic gives the big fat middle finger to what consumers demand. I really wish people would be more conscious of who they give their money to.

https://www.thegamer.com/epic-boss-says-developers-win-game-store-wars-not-consumers/

I disagree with that opinion. Reading the article,

Tim Sweeney, the founder of Epic Games, has declared that Epic Games will win the battle for best digital storefront based on its relationship with developers, not with customers. According to Sweeney, consumers already have the best experience they are going to have using those kinds of platforms, so having a better selection of games will be more important for drawing in new customers.

Sweeney's logic is that, since digital storefronts have been trying to appeal to consumers through the user experience for so long, there's very little left to improve in that area. Adding a few convenient features or making installation easier is no longer enough to displace customers from their current favorites, especially names as well-entrenched in the gaming industry as Valve and Steam.

As PC Games Insider points out, this is an odd thing for the founder of Epic Games to say. Not because it's false, but because the digital storefront is not known for having the most user friendly features. In fact, the Epic Games Store didn't even have a search function until this week, and still doesn't have any social features.

As already posted in this thread, Epic is leading in on a roadmap. Not to mention that these digitals stores are actual publishers themselves working directly with publishers, hence it is a B2B business model selling publicly online. Yes, better deals with publishers will result in better deals overall, wouldn’t you want a better selection or do you like niche models?

What didn’t they give what consumers demand, do you mean the exclusivity?

BTW, Valve at a time was also very invasive which they blamed on their own VAC which most developers subsequently dropped dead because VAC is schit anyway.

Epic partnered up with IGN,

https://www.shacknews.com/article/1...ith-humble-bundle-for-epic-games-store-titles

Epic partners with Humble Bundle for Epic Games Store titles
Epic Games is teaming up with Humble Bundle to offer Epic Games Store titles in an upcoming partnership.

Epic Games is gearing up to partner with Humble Bundle in an effort to allow developers to sell their games via the Epic Games Store on the Humble Bundle Store.

This new change will allow Epic Games Store game developers to sell Epic store exclusives as well. Epic Games all receive no revenue share from the games purchased through the Humble Store,

The partnership will kick off with keys that can be redeemed on the Epic Games Store, and Epic will allow players to go ahead and link their Epic and Humble accounts so that buyers can complete direct purchases.

Seeing this I wouldn't be suprised to see them partner with GOG. GOG already allow a link with Steam, applied to selected items, but that is a value-add by GOG and has nothing to do with Steam.

Now that more publishers are turning heel on Steam. Private Division also pulled The Outer Worlds which was publicly slated to be released on Steam are also now a 1-year exclusive, like most others, on Epic Store.

Publishers are unhappy with Steam’s business model, and Steam will drastically need to adapt to the changing market. Their monopoly is now being tested and as much as I am against exclusivity and NDAs due to being pro-choice this seems to be the turning point.

The question is how Valve is going to react? Their new revenue-sharing model isn’t that much improved, perhaps they will now consider making games again.

Do they still own a lot of the shares or did they completely dis-invest? Information online is very technical.
Completely separate now, no shares as far as I know.

Naspers are lead by some heartless, but damn smart oomies. Multichoice has always been extremely profitable, now they decided to let it go. Tells me they predict multichoice isn't going to be as successful anymore.

All hail Netflix! :-)

Apparently Naspers is focusing on Internet things, but they dropped Showmax as well?

Would you wager your money on showmax? It's dead on arrival if you ask me. Only thing keeping it afloat is the multichoice bucks.

There's no way it can compete with Netflix.

It's actually not bad, it's nice to have with Netflix as it has shows Netflix doesn't. Like the HBO catalogue, South Park and various others.

Netflix doesn't have many shows in SA because multichoice bought the regional rights. As multichoice's purchasing power diminishes as users migrate to Netflix...dum dum duuuum! RIP showmax.

HBO won't be on Netflix.

Epic Gone Nanny State Store? (yes **** I watched a Yong Yea*, lol)

From 2:14

Is this Epic Store virtue signaling the Lefties?

So not only are they gating games, but they are also telling me what I can or can't consume: Contextually I have a problem with this as I will decide for myself what is good and what is not; what I want to watch and what I do not want to watch, this should be my own responsibility and left for someone else.

*Kinda dropped them for Bellular News

Although I agree that it is nonsense, just like the store itself, but they are not telling you what you can or cannot consume. Only what you cannot consume on their store.
We are free not to use them.

I will go with gog, steam ,origin and battlenet. Don't like epics attitude. Compete by offering a better platform not this artificial exclusives bs.

You do know that GOG, Steam, Origin, Battlenet, and Bethesda, even ITCH, has exclusives, right?

I have an idea that the thing with Epic’s exclusivity will be a 1-year term only, which is also pending on whether Steam is adapting their business plan with publishers.

I am surprised with consumer activism nowadays, monopolies must die, but many will happily choke on Gaben’s dick.

I agree with Jim Sterling’s opinion on Epic and Steam.

I wouldn’t be surprised that Ubi is also busy establishing a closed-marketplace.

Meh. Opinionists***.

I'm going there... Just because the NP did apartheid doesn't mean it should be done again; inasmuch as hitler did the holocaust it also just shouldn't be done again.

Extremes yes, but then just because one said entity did exclusives it doesn't mean it should be done for whatever reason again. Anyone still supporting Epic supports this notion and perhaps "too many are too content to just suck a tim sweeney dick" as you put it.

Of course the main problem is the 10 odd launchers I now have; while we are on this point, I can't help but to really laugh at Derek Smart's triggering on about "it is just a launcher" and then goes and cry about semantics on about the same thing on an airline. (OT, the plain is just a launcher for people into other countries and a gender option of binary shouldn't worry you just as you said game launchers should not worry us, god. What a retard.)

In any case I suppose we now "wait" for the launcher scene to crash as to everyone wanting their own streaming service with their own exclusives. Because exclusives is how you become a great competitor with a b-grade store front

So then I suppose there isn't much more to say on this?

***I thought we were not (going OT now) suppose to watch these sensational impressionists as for example AngryJoe, YongYea, TheQuatering and of course Jimpression.

Then I suppose if Derek can be my really tabloid morning entertainment who really gives many ****s?:ROFL:

I'll check out the Jimpression in a bit and sure I do agree that steam can do better and in fact is another evil of gaming and store in itself.

The games which are exclusive to steam, origin, gog ,battlenet and bethesda are games either developed or remastered by themselves. Not other publishers work as is the case with epic.
