Hi everyone
Do you think these printers are decent in terms of printing and running costs?
I have an older Canon MX850 and i think its reached its end, the printing is crappy and spending a lot on refils
I dont do a lot of printing but find the Canon just isnt coping anymore.
I am looking at the L5190 but perhaps its too much?
I do a lot of scanning A4 only is the biggest size.
I like the wifi. I dont however needs faxing option so maybe its overkill?

Would appreciate some input

Thanks

set one up for somebody, Believe the smallest one,
decent for what it is, but then again, ink for these printers is where the money to be made is,
cost more per litre than the most expensive champagne

how many colour pages do you expect to print?

if its not a lot, stick to mono and go laser,

colour is pricey, as that's where the money is to be made
i need colour too unfortunately, i just dont do that much but I do need colour.
So the options are ink jet or ink tank and if ink tank, which one?
Need ADF, wifi printing would be nice, decent colour printing, good scanning capabilities. I do not need fax, i mean who uses fax anymore? :D

what about something like this?

EDIT, see no ADF, so maybe this isn't right, but maybe this is?

what are you talking about?

The Epson Ink Tank ink is bloody cheap. R150 per colour, and you get around 2000 to 3000 pages per refill.

I got one for a family member who doesn't print all that much, its been reliable and very cost effective since he got it 3 years ago. Now that his wife has to work from home its been her office home printer for a year, and they still havent had to buy ink. They haven't purchased ink since they got it.

Which one would you advise for my needs

I think the L5190 is a great printer.
Unfortunately you said you do a lot of scanning which means you need an ADF, this does raise the price considerably.
The printing speed is also decent.

The thing to remember about Ink Tank printers is that the unit is expensive and the ink is cheap. So R6k is a lot to spend on a printer, but the printing costs themselves are very low.

I have a Epson L4150 eco tank . you just fill tanks. Refill ink for a bottle is R130 and i can print 12000 pages
amazing cost effective printer

They really good. get the wifi models. If you print infrequently, you should print a page or two every week or so, to prevent the ink clogging up

I have an L382 at work. I have printed 23438 color pages and 2191 B&W pages in the 2 years I have had it... Awesome little printer.
Bought myself the L3150 from Makro earlier in the month for personal use at home... If it lasts for half of the amount of pages I printed on the one a work, I will be chuffed.
Scanning is a pain in the ass though, since you need to scan 1 by 1, but I dont do alot of scanning , so it doesn't really bother me.

And there we go.
That's why I prefer my toner printer.

but the l5190 has an auto document feeder so surely you can scan multiple pages like that ?

I can highly recommend an entry level Epson ink tank after I had several other cheapies before.
It came with 3 year warranty and ink for 13000 black and 6500 colour, after 3 years I still not had to buy refills.

Learnt this lesson this year, last year thanks to kids working from home as well, cheap Canon printer ended up costing R3700. Got an ink tank and it's cheap to run, sure the printer wasn't cheap.
