Equivalent UNISA degree to BSC:IT?

I did 1.5 years of my degree before I went out to get a job.
I checked with UNI PTA and they are still valid.I have sent an email to UNISA to ask the same thing, just wanted to get a faster answer.

I am thinking seriously about finishing it or an equivalent.Pls help.

A few people in the UNISA thread have done it, including myself. It's slightly changed since I did it, but it's much the same course content. Not sure what to share. Might be better to ask questions if you have any.
 
im doing bsc computing through unisa. If you need any info...

Lots of people here have, check the Unisa thread. It would also help to state what you mean by IT as Unisa modules range from theoretical CS to more practical ones in the informatics degree.

You can also do a general BSc and double major in CS and something else.
 
Ok so im a full stack developer for the past 10 years I just want my qualifications so that i have more options in the future as to where I would like to end up.

I specialise in c# win and webforms(aspx), soap webservices and databases.I tinker around in Android and unreal engine for fun.

BSC Computing looks like the one that would fit me best, but I hated calculas when I studied it at Tuks.

When I look at the modules though it doesnt seem like there is that much math or am I incorrect?

I assume first,second ,third level mean first year, second year etc.

I see one calculas in the first year (MAT1512) and algebra, and then 2 electives called numerical methods, but not sure if that is pure math or programming with math.


I also have credits that are still valid, these are my passed modules from a decade ago

So far 3 or 4 depending on subjects and semester

The calculus is an optional module, the linear algebra is not. I havent done the numerical methods, so cant comment on that.

And how are you finding the course? All done via online, so no need to ever go into a campus?

How far along are you and what is the approx cost of the course assuming you dont need to rewrite anything?

I have never been on campus, done 10 modules so far.

I use the internet, reddit, mbb if im stuck.
There are telegram groups as well
Im doing it by related module, so will be doing some 1st year and 3rd year subjects this coming semester.

Iirc it is around R1800 a module excluding books. (The cos2614 one was R1000 for the book. it does vary).

I work as well and aim to do around 2-3 hrs a day

I think back when I was doing it, I managed to do 3 or 4 modules per semester. It really varied if I'm honest. But near the end it was 3 or 4.

If you aren't a fan of maths, just watch out for:

- Theoretical Computer Science I, II and III
- Formal Logic II and III
- Linear Algebra*
- Calculus A*
- Numerical Methods I and II*

* I haven't done these. I had different options when I did the course.

The best advice I can give is to do as much research on each module as you can before registering, then mix up some "bad" ones with some you think you may enjoy. That's what I did in the end, and it sort of worked for me. Past papers and getting as many marks for your assignments are also your friend.

I still have some of the books I couldn't sell on the shelf at work because they became obsolete faster than the semester could end!

6 module a year. I work at family business so don't have a lot time. Inf1505 and cos1521 is very easy, you can start with that.

Im thinking about this because im starting to hit that salary ceiling for a dev without a qualification.Experience can get the job done but that paper will always convince future employers instantly.Also I think I am in a better place for it now, I was messing around at Uni too much when I was young and free,couldnt give a damn about studying.:whistle:

It also depends on which modules, many are quite hard work and compulsory, like theoretical computer science 1, 2 and 3. You are going to come across discrete mathematics in both theoretical computer science and formal logic. Artificial intelligence and computer graphics are fun electives in your final year

I am really surprised that there are no maths prerequisites for the AI course. I couldn't imagine what would be in an AI course that doesn't require calculus.

You do linear algebra, you do three years of discrete mathematics - the AI course focusses on classic AI, for an undergraduate level AI course in AI, you don't need calculus. If anything, formal logic is going to help more
