I'm very confused and frustrated at this point. Have been trying to install Windows 10 64bit on a desktop machine for 2 days now and keep getting the same error:

0x80070570 - Cannot install files - missing or corrupt

I have tried:
- 2 different iso's
- 2 different usb sticks
- disabling just about everything in the BIOS
- using Microsofts Media creation tool to create USB stick

I googled this error extensively and what I see is not very consistent. Everyone ever encounter this ans managed to fix it?

Machine previously ran Windows 8.1 perfectly so sure the hardware is fine.

Hardware:

- MSI H81M
- Core5
- 8Gb ram
- 265Gb SDD
- GTX 970

Previously read a similar page but for Windows 8. Tried most of those already but there IS one new thing I have not tried: Clearing out the hard drive 1st.

Trying that tonight. Thanks

Bad sector on hard drive?
Boot from media and chkdsk /F /R

However I always scan hard dysk for errors and delays before installng anything.

Yeah that article above suggests it could be a hard disk issue.

Have a bootable linux stick with some utils i can run as well as hard format the SSD. Don't think anything is physically wrong with the disk as it ran windows 8.1 for months now without a single glitch, but may partition table is corrupt or something.

Worse case I'm installing 8.1 again. Its for primarily for office use so should be fine.

Good idea for older windoze, but checking hard drive is even better one.
Bad sector could be in dormant (never accessed) area, when you overrite everything, it will show up.

The fact you say you have a Core5 and a 256Gb SDD proves this is an Id-10-T issue.

So I tried the last few things suggested, including a different ram stick and clearing / testing the drive from bootable linux but the issue persisted.

Re-installed Windows 8.1 and worked perfectly. 10 would have been nice but frankly 8.1 will work just fine for the machines purpose.

Can only spend so much time on this and wife wants to use it for work - seems my Windows skills is not what it used to be after only using MacOs and Linux server the last few years... :)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions

Did you partition the device before installing windows 10 on it?

Yes I did, Also deleted all the partitions using bootable linux and re-build the partition table.

Windows 8 has now been running flawlessly (well except for the fact that its not Windows 7 :)) since my last post so sticking with that for now.
