Hi,

I am battling to get the internal modem to work on my HP 8540p. I have inserted my 3G sim and have set up the modem according to specs, but i keep getting the error 680 (no dial tone).

I can connect fine with the same sim using an external modem. I have done the normal onboard and online troubleshooting checks, still same error. Even disabling the dial tone completely fails to work.

When i try connect i can hear the modem clicking but then the damn error 680 message..........

Any comments please.

Resolved?

Hello,

I recognize that this is an old post, but I'm wondering if there was ever a solution found for it. I am having the same problems with this very modem. It is in my Network Connections folder labeled from factory as a 3G modem, but I have attempted every setting I could possibly find with my active SIM card in the SIM slot and I still get the same message.

I suspect that this modem is solely V92 dial up fax modem and that it is labeled incorrectly, but i am still not 100% confident of that and I don't like to assume without facts.

Please, any information anyone has regarding this problem will be very helpful as this will greatly improve my productivity at work where I currently have some severe limitations.

Thanks,
WH

I realise this is very old, but maybe this helps somebody: On my laptop I have to hit a hot key to activate the internal LSI HDA modem. On my laptop it is "fn" and "-". If I don't do this, I also get the same error. I also get a clicking sound, but it is not a modem clicking sound, it is a sound from the speaker that indicates an error.

I wonder of someone can help me: I am trying to use same internal modem to send / receive SMS messages so that I can use Telkom Mobile's free internet offering...

Anyone found a way to do that? A software app that works perhaps?

GPRS/3G modem? In the dialup properties enter dialing string *99#
