Hi V3G

Sometimes , when trying to connect through Vodafone Mobile Connect , the following error message pops up:

"While attempting to connect, an error with the number 692 occurred.
- Hardware failure in port or attached drive."

Happens on the 3G preferred profile.

Only solution is to shut down , power up and reconnect.

I'm running Mobile Connect 7.03.0005 on Windows XP Pro.

O ja - it's a Merlin U740 with firmware 15.4-15.4-00 [2006-01-06 14:54:22].

Card is used on a desktop - interface is provided by means of the Vodacom PCMCIA adapter "thingamajig" :D

Addicted to the PPDB :D

Enough info to make a prelim diagnosis ?

Ta very much for any assistance & have a cool Monday :p :D :)

692 indicates a hardware failure in the modem, or something close to it, so in your case it could be the adapter "thingamajig" as well. Or the motherboard.
I'm going to give that much-hated M$ support answer:

1) Check for latest BIOS.
2) Check for latest drivers for USB (including the "thingamajig", motherboard, OS)
3) Upgrade to VMC9, as on the download section on www.vodacom.co.za.

My first suspicion would be something around your USB setup (BIOS, motherboard, drivers, etc.), then the modem itself.

Have you tried the modem in a laptop?

Sweet munkles  :D :)

Many thanks - gonna try what you're recommending :)

Something I've thought about lately - does Vodacom realise the good work you're doing here ?

Hopefully they [Vodacom] increase your salary each time you resolve a problem here :D

Thanks again - have a super day onwards :)
