I installed counter strike on 2 different computer, windows 7 and win xp. both can't connect to steam network. tried to eliminate router issues, directly connected to dsl modem, still can't connect.

tried it with telkom and axxess, can't connect with either of them. trying for 3 days already.

any ideas?

Try changing the download server. To something not busy like Greenland.

Or you might need to reinstall steam but first backup your game and try the firewall again, even though its in the firewall exclusion the steam update may have buggered it up. So shutdown steam and delete all steam references from the firewall and allow it to relearn steam.

With all these type of things, i suggest DISABLE your firewall + Antivirus + UAC completely then check [disable anything else that is related] . Then slowly turn things back on. You're just making things difficult for yourself if you don't know what it is and try to fiddle with exclusion lists, maybe the port is blocked. If you're on a corporate network, i can guarentee you Steam will be port blocked [regardless of what you do in your own firewall] .

The issue here is also, we're talking about multiple applications that needs to inter-connect. Steam has to connect by itself, every game has to connect VIA steam by itself too. So check that you can log into Steam with the steam app, browse the store etc etc, then check the games themselves. Maybe Steam is fine, but your games [their exes/ports] are being blocked?

Also like I said. When an update happens sometimes the firewall doesn't catch on.

How do you change the steam download server?

Today Mine says updating steam, then times out, and says it cannot connect......

I've had this error before, but if I wait several hours it normally fixes itself, but would like a perma insta fix...

am using afrihost adsl, btw.

So its not me going nuts :D
I can't even run a game if its going on in the background.
