Error install build-essential on Ubuntu 9.04

I tried installing the g++ compiler but I get the following error from the terminal:

  build-essential: Depends: g++ (>= 4:4.3.1) but it is not going to be installed
                   Depends: dpkg-dev (>= 1.13.5) but it is not going to be installed

Any ideas?

solution:

sudo apt-get -f install


This will bring in all the unmet dependencies.

Also use "aptitude" instead. Its much more efficient.
