hi,

I bought a mecer 750g hdd yesterday, haven't used it as yet,

noticed on the box it said up to 3gb per second, using eSATA..

how do you use the eSata option? i also noticed it came with a serial ATA usb cord thingy...what is that for ? it looks like a normal usb cord just slight thinner at the end ...

eSATA is for an external SATA drive similar to an external USB drive.

Your motherboard needs to have a eSATA connector at the back where the USB ports are. Some boards have eSATA headers on the motherboard to connect to the front panel connections (If your case has a eSATA connector in the front).

thanks...i'll be inspecting the back of my pc tonight :)

If your motherboard does not support have an eSATA connector, you'll need a PCI eSATA card.

This one from prophecy.co.za is R258.62

And while they may LOOK similar, please note that eSATA and USB are not the same. Don't force it!

eSATA is simply delicious in transfer speeds, it rips USB2 a new one.

However, not all manufacturers have written decent drivers, and support under XP is somewhat spotty at times. Vista is quite a lot better thanks to being written to take advantage of newer technologies.

If you can get it to work, you won't want to go back to USB.

How much did the drive cost btw? Im also looking for an external with eSata :/ Also where?
