eSIM on Galaxy Watch

Interesting that this post is about 2 years old and all the comments here are still relevant to this day. All MTNs are useless when it comes to this. Make matters worse, they will take you from pillar to post to get anything done. As it is I am looking to get a smartwatch. It's been three weeks. I'm told there's an voucher that has to be redeemed only when stock of watches become available. So even if the watch is available in the store on the shelf, those watches cannot be given to you. You have to wait for the ones at the warehouse to be delivered to you. No other way. Add to that, no one updates you about follow ups and trying to get the product to you as soon as possible.

Well...since this post has been bumped and is still relelvant, here's my situation.
Had an iPhone 15 Pro max, and an Apple watch. Was so long ago, don't remember how I got MTN to actually set up the e-sim so I could link it. But I did get it working so that calls on the watch went through my MTN main account and number. Been working fine for 2 years.
But now I have just changed to a Samsung. Fold 7. And purchased a Samsung watch with LTE.
Do you think anyone at MTN knows how to transfer the eSim from my Apple watch to my Samsung watch? Ugh.
The Samsung can have 2 sim cards, or one sim and one eSim. But I don't want a separate account or number for the watch.
I wonder if I have to figure it out myself and then tell MTN what to do?

I guess maybe I need to do a sim swap from the esim to a physical sim.
Then do another sim swap from that physical sim to an esim and link that to my main number somehow. Dunno.
Don't want to deactivate my regular number in the process.
Anyone have any clue?

Did you ever figure this out ?

Came across a post that recommends going to the MTN experience store, other than that - no luck and spoke to a consultant at a MTN store, he just said its the same as apple at which point I decided I was better off just leaving.

Spent about an hour at Rosebank MTN with them really confused what they had to do. They were calling people, calling Samsung, shuffling around, making suggestions that would obviously never work.
Then one of the guys got on the phone to someone, and they seemed to have provisioned a new esim. Spend another half hour trying to set it up using the phone to add it to the watch, without much luck. Then later when I got home, suddenly it seems to have added itself to the watch, and started working. I have NO idea how they got it done, and frankly I am not sure they know either. But for now, I seem to have a working eSim on my watch.

Mine worked for a good few months, now I see its dead again.

Will require another trip to the MTN experience centre on Rivonia Road:(

I spoke too soon. Found out yesterday that the eSim wasn't working. It was making calls through the phone, but when I went out of range of the phone, I was getting "sim not provisioned for voice"
As always, MTN had no idea what to do, and refused to help, telling me I need to go to the store.
In trying to get the eSim working, somehow I activated eSim on my regular physical main number sim. So it blocked my number.
Eventually the only way to get it unblocked was the change the physical sim to an eSim. Main number working now. No idea if the eSim works on the watch yet.
Can't believe these service providers are so clueless as to how their own systems work.

Good luck bud, if there is an MTN experience centre in Durbs, its your best bet.

I am going through the same pain with MTN now, trying to get an esim for a new Samsung watch.

I had to go in to the store to get the QR code, which was relatively seamless other than the fact that the assistant had to call someone else to find out how to do it. Why this cannot be done online like with Vodacom is beyond my understanding, but here we are with MTN.

The service is now activated on the watch, but the esim is still RICA blocked.

Trying to self-RICA the esim using the MTN app is just a nightmare. This is the most useless and buggy app that I have encountered other than perhaps the Discovery app. The esim number was only recognized on the 10th try to enter the damn 19-digit number, then it refuses to upload the required selfie.

I am giving up and will now go back to the store to see if they can RICA the esim.

@MTN - please start living in the 21st century and fix your damn app and other IT systems!!!
