Eskom’s massive Soweto headache

Just cut them off...oh wait...you can't...the electricity thieves are the core voting demographic...

If I don't pay I get cut off but if you live in Soweto you don't.
With SAPOS stricke I never received a bill and paid the same as the previous month. Problem is that the account went up by R1800 and they didn't even warn me with a yellow letter prior to cut off. They said they cut off if you pay more than R300 too little.

I then had to pay costs of cut off and turn on of R1200. And they increased my deposit immediately. So I had to pay R4200 in addition to the increased bill without answer.

Fk you and Fk Soweto it is double standards and virtually racist imo.

I am gatvol of unethical people getting away with everything and I just slip up and get punished drastically.

You don't pay you get cut off that is the rules and must be applied to everyone no matter where you live or what race or work you do.
 
So it's votes for electricity, ok you ANC MOFO's you can have my one crappy vote and then you can pay my electrical bill.
Sweet it's a deal.

Would be interesting to see how they are going to address this. As far as I'm aware this stems back to the consumer boycotts instituted by the UDF back in the late 80's (I stand open to correction), so it's quite an entrenched mindset and the government has done nothing to address it effectively in the past, any major upset to the voter base in Soweto might have a backlash in the 2016 municipal elections, so looks like they got themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place
 
This government lacks the political will to address this - so we'll just continue subsidising the thieves until jesus comes. Cos even if the ANC lose the municipal election, I doubt the new party will cut them off either.

Yes the culture of non-payment stems back from the consumer boycott days and subsequent generations have just assumed they too don't have to pay for reasons they are unaware of. Eskom did cut parts of Soweto a few years ago but the cuts were blanket meaning they even cut paying customers because it was the only way they could do so safely. I think that's what led to the formation of the Soweto Electricity Crisis movement
 
If they cut off Soweto will the residents suddenly vote DA. I don't think so. The ANC can do whatever or not do whatever it likes and the sheep will continue to vote for them.

[2] Is the headache one of Soweto residents paying the distribution company who has not paid Eskom - much like the 200 or so municipalities who have defaulted on Eskom in which event it is simply because of the size of the default that Soweto is a concern?
[3] Is the headache that there are too many households in Soweto acquiring electricity as small users directly from Eskom?
