Eskom said on Thursday its chief executive would step down in March, departing the power utility at a time when South Africa struggles to keep the lights on due to tight electricity supply.

Eskom chairperson Zola Tsotsi told a media briefing that Brian Dames was stepping down for "personal reasons" and that a search for his successor was already underway.

Dames was appointed chief executive of Eskom on July 1 2010, after serving Eskom in various management positions and as member of the executive committee in 2004.

His resignation fllows the departure of another top executive, CFO Paul O’Flaherty in July this year.

Hopefully his departure package is to be made public.
 
Those rats aren't nearly fat enough .. Eskom executive bonusses makes for an above average amount of face-stuffing.
 
My uncle works for Eskom as a manager. He's supposed to be in charge of 20 people, but none of those people exist. So he effectively has to do the work of 20 people + himself, and of course he can't. (This is apparently not limited to his department.) Apart from the whole inability to find people who aren't incompetent, apparently Eskom is incurring massive costs (hundreds of millions of Rands) due to ongoing wage arbitration. The only reason he's still there is so he can retire with a full pension.

tl;dr Eskom isn't a sinking ship, it's a ship that's already under the waves. The only question is how many people can get out before it goes to the bottom.
 
Brian Dames has resigned as chief executive of Eskom, the power utility said on Thursday.

"Eskom will still have the benefit of his vast experience and knowledge until 31 March 2014," chairman of the Eskom board Zola Tsotsi said in a statement.

"During this time the Eskom board and Mr Dames will work together to ensure a smooth transition to a new chief executive.

The process to find a successor was "well underway and we expect it to be concluded timeously", Tsotsi said

Dames and O'Flaherty are actually seriously good people. It's difficult to keep head above water when there's a heck of a lot to contend with.
O'Flaherty was one of the most qualified and experienced people [for his position] in the country. Dames too.

Yep. They actually both did decent jobs against all odds.
 
He probably decided enough is enough... you can only take so much government meddling and incompetence in the ranks.. your head begins to look like mine from banging it into the wall.

I have seen retards in the halls, that make Telkom workers look like Nobel prize laureates.
