Eskom CEO pay vs performance

BusinessTech looks at Eskom's chief executive remuneration over the past decade, and weighs it up against how profitable the entity was in each respective financial year.

I know this is an overly simplistic way to look at it...

They're a bloody parastatal that is providing an essential service, they should not be bloody making a profit...

If they have the intention of (responsibly) investing those profits into the 'business' in the future, I see no problem with taking profits.

Well the current CEO is gonna have issues soon and I suspect will leave in the next 1-3 years as pushing for Electricity price increases has become less and less likely to be granted due to costs now making Sa uncompetitive amongst the developing nations and they are yet to deliver a major permanent increase in energy production.

Parastatel CEO renumeration and top exec has always been and will always be a bit of a grey area. Yes you want to hire the best of the industry and with Eskom profits looking as they do they doing great.. but how this is achieved is something that needs to be relooked at. For private sector its acceptable to charge clients more but for utility services like this in an uncompetitive market efficiency & other intercompany savings need to be looked at ahead of just passing the buck. I worry that they have gotten use to just making the consumer pay! :erm:

All those profits are going into paying off the loans that are paying for the new power stations.
