Eskom drops winter bombshell

convenient ... since they did not get the increase they wanted ...
how can they be allowed to hold the country to ransom like this??

This makes the procurement of a small gas geyser critical. I'm not going to be hold to ransom by those clowns.

I don't think it's related to the increases. It's more related to the fact that they could not do maintenance during summer because they just did not have enough capacity - Koeberg had issues, as well as some other stations if I remember right.
 
Yeah, as much as i hate standing up for Eskom, I don't think this is malicious on their part, I think they're just so useless that their maintenance schedule is a mess.
 
I have been thinking about getting a gas heater this winter. After reading this, I have made up my mind. I went to Makro yesterday to check out the Goldair they had on sale for R700 and they were out of stock.

Nah. To do their maintenance they would have needed load-shedding which would have damned them in our eyes anyway.
Eskom was handcuffed by the cANCer government in the late 90s and early 00s when they were prevented from doing capacity upgrades because it was better to spend the money on submarines, frigates and black bmws.
 
baastids. just after they didnt get their 'required' increase. foresight isnt required for big bonuses and perks at eishkom.

I'm quite jealous of my folks off grid solar setup. They only use about 2 hours of Eskom on overcast days. Now if I could just find R120 000 in capital...

The challenges are all created by mismanagement and ineptitude (at various levels), so people are free to lash out all they want...
