How Eskom is avoiding Stage 7 load-shedding

Eskom has managed to avoid Stage 7 load-shedding in recent days and weeks by implementing Stage 4 load-curtailment, Stage 6 power cuts, and burning diesel in 19 open-cycle gas turbines (OCGTs).

Several experts have said that the state-owned power utility is simply avoiding officially announcing higher stages of load-shedding by taking load off the grid in other ways.
 
If Eskom were to lose more generation capacity to breakdowns or if demand were to increase further, the only option to avoid grid collapse would be to implement higher stages of load-shedding, with the next step up being Stage 7.

Pretty much what I said the other day. They're out of headroom, currently.
 
All that says is they've maxed out on everything and it's still stage 6, there's no margin for error. Any further breakdowns and they have no choice...
 
Do we have an updated list on what power generation unit is currently offline?
 
Yep, on the brink now with it. 19/20 OGT and odd that the 20th hasnt been used unless bein repaired but there is no more headroom in the current format.

Nothing's actually been done, is it? Nobody held accountable. Another day another load shedding stage. This shit (specifically the lack of any proactive action from government) is wearing me out.

They've been playing this game all year. Because of politics. Like, somehow Stage 7 would be an admission of failure, that stage 6, isn't.
 
so what will be the straw that breaks the camels back? when some comrade decides he wants to get rich and breaks a crucial component?
or when the inevitable happens and something critical breaks and bye bye power grid, hello Looting and anarchy.
 
Sweat plain fokol is what they are doing. They've been "fixing" stuff for years now and nothing is repaired yet. Overall it in fact declined.

Nothing is going to improve until we physically see new plants being build. Until then its going to get even worse.
