Eskom has severe employee problems

In particular, the report said that there is no reward system for good performance at Eskom, giving its staff no motivation to work harder and produce better results.

Oh really. You still have a paying job. If you don't want to work out don't like it, then F... Off!!

It is the same as giving a 10 year old this question and asking him or her to solve it and motivating him or her by offering R100k increase every day. The frustration will grow, negativity will grow but the job will never be done.

Or just do what is expected of you and not go the extra mile? that is what this is about, saying they still have a job is missing the point.

I don't know how familiar you are with how companies like Eskom and Telkom used to work in the past, you could literally go walkabout in the street, see a bakkie and ask for help, they would help you if what you were asking for is within their capabilities, nowadays they will tell you straight to go and log a fault, regardless of how simple your issue might be, which is just them doing their job just as it's expected and not being bothered by anything they don't have to do.

So the response that you still have a job is a popular one in response to incentives but it is also a flawed one because everyone is capable of just doing their job and nothing else, which of course impacts negatively on customer service.

Time to let the Sangoma's take charge and bring lightning from the sky to generate electricity. Then we wouldve decolonised ESKOM.
 
Having a boss that is dumber than you are can be extremely frustrating and demotivating. Interesting that the Germans assert that the intellectual capacity exists, but that it’s being neutralised by the company structure. That’s slightly less dire of a situation than I expected.

It's like government, the capacity to excel exist, but the political & party structure keeps the right people out of the critical jobs. It's basically a/the culture in this country.
