Eskom in huge trouble

Same thing with the 2011 California blackout. They just imported power from neighboring states to kickstart their grid again.

South Africa is for all intents and purposes effectively on an island in the middle of the ocean.

Yeah. It does make the case for separating each provinces grid and passing authority to each province. The problem, as this is also why most revenue collection was centralised at National Gov, would be the non-effective provinces. Can't really imagine the NCGov managing this

Wouldn't this chaos you speak of be a good thing in the long run? Would make the powers that be, realise they can screw with other stuff. Not the stuff that really matters.

I think that if the powers that be don't realise this already, we are well past the point of recovery. I don't hold much hope for them changing when they still resort to blaming existing problems on Jan van Riebeek and apartheid.

My fear is how long would it take South Africa to recover from this state? We have a national blackout, they somehow manage to restore services, but then how long till another blackout hits? Reality is unlike the overseas blackouts we don't have a fix for this. Our power stations will still remain unmaintained, and we will still have inadequate capacity to prevent another potential blackout.

It will end up being a vicious circle.

I can see this playing out in SA............ all provinces asking Western Cape to kick start them every few days............ :)

How can a grown human being be so self absorbed and short sighted as the people who are and were responsible for keeping Eskom running ?

I really am unable to grasp this. In my own experiences only toddlers have the ability to disregard all reason and logic in pursuit of pushing their own will, or the complete and utter inability to foresee beyond the present moment ?

That is where the problem originated from.
Not to be racist or anything, The thought provoking intellectual ability is non existant in the native african continent. The drive to push themselves and advance is not the same as with their western counterparts and there for they cannot Govern and rule with the same finesse.

Make no mistake there are extremely book smart native African individuals residing in South Africa, Even many with a better education than I. But the common sheep and goat herder just does not make a good ruler...

Imo ofc - Because all they really care about is themselves, and enriching themselves... As long as they have their millions and power (as I'm sure they're not load shed, and/or have the money to go off the grid anyway) they will and do not care about anyone/anything else. The thought also crossed my mind, that they're sticking it to the white man too here, as we're the ones who complain the most so while they get a reaction, they'll keep yanking our chains... They probably don't even care about their own as they are so far removed from the poverty and poor people that they don't even spare them a thought ~ let them eat t-shirts indeed!

And as tinfoil hat as it sounds, I think am going to stock up on water and non perishables, and may even get 2x 50L petrol container as a backup in case I need to get out of the city - I call a 2 week blackout... No proper maintenance done in 10 (whatever, it's been a few) years and no signs of it starting now either.

Not to be racist or anything...
And yet your post is the very textbook definition of racism.

racist
A person who believes that a particular race is superior to another.

Where did he say or imply that any particular race is more superior than any other? He mentioned facts as can be seen on the ground with the whole of Africa as the test case and as many experienced in our history and even today. Just look at Africa and then our own circumstances can clearly be understood. Why is South Africa becoming such a mess other than due to greed and corruption, pure incompetence and the inability of our leaders to rule like other nations have shown it could and should be done? Explain that to us "racists" if you dare.

FWIW....anybody of whatever color or creed that lands a job they are not capable/useless at handling with exceptional pay and happens to be Politically connected with a bunch of stealing thieves...

needs the boot..... enough Morons like that all striving for their combined uselessness tend to break Countries.

See no Racial stuff. Just fact. And perfectly Logical.
