That's down to the repo rate and inflation though. Was trying to find figures about any SA debt in USD but couldn't find it. In short it's the spread between the rate the gov pays and the repo/base rate that matters.

Eskoms debt in USD comes in around 6.7% (at least according this https://www.businesslive.co.za/bd/companies/2019-06-20-investors-are-riding-an-eskom-bonds-bonanza/
But would need to spend more time to find SA gov debt in USD - maybe there isn't any?)

SA (Govt) Debt in USD -> Called SOAF bonds in the international debt market. Sovereign bond details as follows:

Total USD In Issue: $16,619,112,000.00 ($16.619bio) @ USD/ZAR 14.80 = ZAR246bio "Government" sovereign debt in $ terms.
SA also has JPY60bio and EUR500mio in offshore debt.

Eskom USD-denominated bonds currently sitting @ USD5.5bio

Why even the need to band together? Unless you live in a complex where you don't have a choice you just do your own thing, are you going to go into some business transaction with a neighbour you have never even bothered to greet and you'll suddenly work together because you are united by your Eskom troubles?

NO. We do not. We do not need projects that cost billions and need real expert technicians to run. That's just a ticket for more corruption and waste. We need wind and solar power, which can be built using local tech and skill. And yes - solar can generate at night - using molten salt stored in large underground tanks.
