I received this from my area ward councillor today.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

"The presentation was all about the Eskom load management project and it will start at the end of this week.

Basically during load shedding all your devices like lights, TV, Decoder, Wi-Fi and fridge will be able to function.

Your stove, geyser, iron, pool pump, hairdryer and air fryer etc will not work as it will draw too much power and will need to be off on your distribution board/plug or else controlled by a management device.

If you are drawing too much power your power will go off and nothing will work until the heavy electricity using devices are isolated. Once isolated power will return to your property.

Street lights and traffic lights should also work in the area which improves security.

If your details are correct you will be sent an sms to say you are drawing too much power and you will have about 5 seconds to turn off those power hungry devices.

Download the Eskom app to ensure your information is correct for effective communication.

This applies to pre paid meters as well. If you have a CIU - customer interface unit, you will be able see your usage and reduce accordingly.

Regarding the charging of your batteries, this will need to controlled not to use power from Eskom during the load shedding hours or your power will be cut off depending on the demand.

Generally what this means is that during loadshedding you will be able to function to some extent instead of being totally off.
This is up to stage 4 load-shedding only"

If this becomes wide spread the 1kw or smaller inverter market
Will have a lot of unwanted stock

Luckily it takes time to implement , giving them time to work down the inventory

If you bought yours long before this kicks in you may feel it has paid its due

Recent not so much

How many hundreds of millions of zars did the minister of (no)electricity pilfer in the tshwane smart meter fraud?

How many billions is he going to steal this time on a national (non)rollout?

Sickening.

Ramaphosa could have picked anyone, literally anyone for this PR job, he chose a guy with previous scandals. Are they incapable of picking someone clean?

More than that, he chose a guy with a previous scandal in the electricity sector. So at the very least he chose someone with a bit of experience in stealing in the industry he's being appointed into.

I quite like this idea.. Don't need my Geyser or stove to be on at those times as long as they warn u in advance so I can switch my geyser off.. What happens if its 2 in the morning of you don't have one of those devices?

Im fine with this
I only need 200 watts maximum during load shedding reduction

Don't you just plug your caravan into one of these? That's why they're open like this, no?

What love to know what this really means.

Like the only true unit of measurement is you have X-amount watt hours useable during loadshedding. Some people have 4 refrigerators (guilty) where others only have 1, which will obviously have a major impact on power draw.

Also in true essence, lets say you're only allowed 0.4kwh useable during loadshedding, you should technically have the freedom to decide how you going to use that how you wish?

But I guess considering where we live, they will decide for you, just like they did during Covid.
