Eskom load-shedding a temporary setback: minister

I propose they build a roof over their coal.
 
Nobody's reported to Edna that this has an economic impact, so it's just fine then.

I don't think this feeble person has a clue that the impact is more than just the direct economic loss, it affects local and global business perceptions and ultimately growth. I guarantee you that at least one plan to invest/expand a business/launch a new development, etc has just been shelved or downgraded today as a result of this.

Read an article recently in which Eskom said the **** would've hit the fan sooner if it wasn't for the current 7% reduction in demand because of the platinum mine strikes - I guess Molewa is hoping AMCU doesn't come to an agreement too soon.

Who allows these imbeciles to talk seriously.

They claiming the reason for the shortage of electricity is because the coal is wet (I call bull$h!t) but lets take it for arguments sake. coal is is used to create the electricity so if it is wet it means that they cannot use it (according to them) to make the electricity to put into the grid, however she claims "we have enough and adequate energy in the grid" and the problem is utilisation????

seriously there is so much "dafuq?" in there it's not even funny.

Can't they dig out the centre of the coal to get the dry coal? Maybe I'm just being stupid but how do you wake up in the morning and boom sorry Emegency load shedding cause of bad weather.

I quite agree with you it is utter nonsense. The last time this happened, wet coal was also the stated problem. But if that was true, why was the solution to build several new massive power stations and triple the price of electricity? It came out in 2008 that the real problem was actually that due to sheer mismanagement they'd let inventory run too low and the rain had affected the small amount remaining.

Knowing Eskom, I wouldn't be surprised if what happened here is that:

a. The guy who orders the coal and manages the inventories went on long leave (as he did in 2008) and it just simply didn't happen.

or

b. The coal mine contracts expired and they weren't renewed because Eskom procurement is waiting on their Tax clearance, BBBEE certificate, VAT certificate, workmen's compensation certificate, UIF certificate, SANAS, SABS, directors FICA documents, ad nauseum. Ask anyone who does business with them - it's impossible to do business with them.

With all these meters not running at the moment they must be losing a bucketload of money. They should look at investing in keeping there coal dry.

Even if someone did there's no guarantee that she even understands the concept.

Edna is a temporary setback. Eskom is a temporary setback.
The ANC is a temporary setback.
