State power provider is seeking to raise tariffs by an average of 15% over the next three years, according to a report from Moneyweb.

The problem is the municipalities add a HUGE premium onto Eskom tariffs.

Eskom's electricity is cheap, less than R1 a kwh but we pay over R2.

More serious though Eskom have still not shown how they are as efficient as possible. They keep coming back year after year asking us to fund their inefficiencies (as well as the fraud and corruption).

This is my big issue really....

If they played open cards and were efficient, then as much as I complained, the increase would be understandable.... since they aren't its not.

If this sort of increase for the next 3 years is approved, it makes the choice to go solar almost a no-brainer really.

We currently pay a Service Charge of R123.01 and Network Charge of R362.38, both excl. VAT, before we are charged for a single kWh.

Cost per kWh on prepaid versus account? We have just moved in so before I make any big changes I want us to settle and get an idea of how much electricity we use so I can do a real comparison.
