Eskom wants massive tariff rise

I will agree to this increase, IF we have full and complete public access to the SCADA system that Eskom employs so that we can see the state of the electricity network in a real time basis, and that any plans for improving the situation are made public...

Basically Eskom needs to stop being cagey and give us ALL the info, then I'd accept the increase.

No? Get those performance bonuses back and use that. the paying people are going to leave or run out of money and all the people getting theirs for free (illegal connections, etc) are not going to be effected? HAHAHA f*67 you eskak

what happens to all the money? bring me an audit report. aren't they a public entity. can we see the audit report?

how is it okay just to keep on pouring more and more money into this fsuckn thing? this is on top of the increase they got ALREADY.

f0kk0f!

So people who can afford to will move increasingly to solar. Those who don't pay now keep not paying. Net result = less money

You think R11 million in bonuses will make up the R225 billion shortfall? :wtf:

Of course not. But it damn well is a start. It will also send a message to managers at Eskom, that incompetency does not get rewarded which I guarantee will start to eat into that shortfall even more when people start pulling up their socks.

I expect the 11mil is just the tip of the iceberg.
How much money is spent on consultants to perform functions of employees?
What other "small" amounts are wasted every month?
It all adds up, maybe not to 225bil, but you can't ask for more, if you waste money.

The higher the prices the bigger the incentive to install your own solar panels etc and go off the grid. Something like "peak electricity"...

Yeah, there's been chronic mismanagement for very long. Stop the bonuses would be like stopping the pouring of salt into the wound, rather than fixing the wound...

Their wage bill is probably ginormous, yes. And yeah, I agree, they need to stop the mismanagement before asking for more money.

Alleged shortfall, can you believe anything coming from Eskom?

Depends. They were pretty spot on with their capacity projections over a decade into the future.

This highlights the toxic result of political interference (for expediency's sake) in such an important utility.

That and full disclosure of all tenders and expenditure, together with management, past and present, refunding of performance (sic) bonuses paid over the last 10 years.
