Eskom

So if the company cleaned up its act they would eliminate half of their money problems??
Yet another example of BEE/AA failing.
Pathetic Billiton and Mozambique get power at a loss and we subsidise them
Eskom has under spent 200 million on salaries and overspent 190 million on overtime - let me guess they were not allowed to hire whites
Inflation is going to sky rocket.
Economic growth to go down.
This is criminal behaviour.

8 % decrease in growth in construction industry
Mining is going to have major job losses
Seems we are in for a rocky road.

Cost of electricity :2008 R1000 pm .......2012 R5000 pm and the gvt is in full support of this so that means it is going ahead
Jacob Maroga is now holding this country to ransom and for once I agree with Cosatu.
We need to take the gvt on.

Very well said marine......one of my motivating factors for moving to another country is that it will almost become impossible to afford to live in South Africa the way Eskom and the likes are carrying on:mad:. Here in Canada inflation is negative at - 0.8 percent:erm:

Norm you are dead on, we will not be able to live in SA in 10 yrs time or even 5 yrs.
We have as you may know put our papers in for OZ and are waiting.
This continent cannot sustain itself as there is just too much greed.

The middle class is being or has been wiped out.

Well, I hope that it all works out quickly for you. You are going to be very surprised at the cost of living in a 1st world country. Unfortunately, there are folks who can't leave and will have to bite the bullet when prices sky rocket. My parent's for one are on a fixed pension, I will have to start sending them money or I will take over there electricity bill because they won't be able to afford it.:o At least they are lucky to have us to help...

Yes I hear you, I live in Los Angeles for 2 years so I have a fair idea.
Hmm lets see I was earning $2500-00 for the fist couple of months and lived very well.

$2500 is easily livable. A trolley load of food is only about $250 ( Depending what you buy )

Yes, my car was $125
rent was $600
Phones cell and landline $100
Internet T1 (fractional in the complex) $39
Cable TV - 999 or so channels $49 i think
Insurance with medical was about $250
I think these were the right prices give or take 10 dollars

Yes, those prices are right depending on your lifestyle. Here is Canada medical is free though, so that saves us plenty. Our rental is $700 for a huge double story house on a lake. Otherwise prices are very similar to what you mentioned marine....I think from what I hear from family in Aus and NZ that its very similar.

I'm just hoping to sell my business ASAP. With the ESKOM increases this year my margin was wiped out. It's tough sailing, but the ship has steadied... though next year will be killer. Just want to sell and bugger off to Europe.

Nah dude, I've already made up my mind. I'll just be sure to buy a smallish property somewhere in Bloem (prices are quite cheap currently) and hope that all the schit is sorted out in 10-15 years. I would like to come back to SA sometime you know...

Watching Carte Blanche, makes me happy that my Dad is an American resident and me being able to get a british passport is even better.

Time to start considering overseas I think.

The other shocking thing was that 30% of Eskom's power get stolen, and it seems they do not have the will to stop it. Much easier just to charge your paying customers 150% extra.

:sick::sick::sick:

Exactly:mad:you don't pay, your electricity gets cut, I dare eskom to go into the townships and pull those illegal lines. They won't, they will rather rape the middle class of the little they have.:mad::sick:

I wonder why so many saffas are coming home then. Do they believe the DA can do something for the country ?
