Eskom's plan to build small nuclear reactors

Hmm guy who is a renewable zealot, is saying
Mallinson also expressed his views on nuclear power generation, describing it as “yesterday’s technology” and saying it is cost-prohibitive.

The biggest carbon killer for power generation and it is safe, reliable and cheaper to run in the long run... Hmmm Sure yesterdays technology...

Still in bed with the Russians and Chinese I see

lmao why do you think we had loadshedding in the first place? It's a better method to convince than Westerners sitting around blowing bubbles all day.

This is good, anyway, nuclear is the future.

That pebble bed tech that we developed is going to be sold back at us, at markup, honestly I'd trust Russian or Chinese nuclear engineering better than the locals. Contracting any of this out to Western powers would be stupid and dangerous.

So Western paid "climate" NGOs better sit this one out, it's a hot topic. Think dudes like this Clyde Mallinson will maybe be paid a visit sooner or later, these guys have no idea the kind of forces they're toying with. I'm sure okes like him stick close to the airport.

Just theory, but this whole saga could actually be a competition between Russia (nuclear) and China (solar) for grip, they are friendly in terms of BRICS and the conflict up in Ukraine but in terms of Africa it's heavy competitive.

The irony that we might have had a working pebble bed reactor by now :/ if the designs werent stolen by china only for it to be sold back to us XD

Hey, you snooze you lose, man, finders keepers.

Want to note, it seems they only built one, though, I'm not sure how effective it is... surely they'd have built more if it was that good, time will tell.

We should actually just buy some of their old nuclear subs and hook them up to the grid here, they've done it before in Russia with some cities, just plug the bastards in.

Also it would look cool.
Damn, look at you sciencing. Energy crisis solved. Done and dusted.

I'm just kidding, AFAIK they only did it once or twice I think as a temporary emergency measure for coastal towns etc who were out of power, it's not a permanent solution, it's still creative.

It seems drastic until you remember being out of electricity or working gas pumps in Russian winter is probably not the best thing to happen to you.

Amazon must rush to buy land here for the next Fallout. Don't even need a VFX engine...

For nuclear, I'd pick Russian contracts purely for the automatic added security benefit, knowing this lawless hole, China will likely be the more cost effective and speedier option, but security will probably be at the mercy of the locals.

If you gonna pick French etc you just begging for sabotage.

Damn, back to the drawing board then.

Power stations and bombs are 2 different things, you'd not get a nuclear blast like a bomb, you'd get a meltdown like Chernoybl which would spew radiation far and wide, without the immediate vaporization.
