I also tried to get more info.

All I can say is it looks like a cheap rebranded china mobile. Not that that is a bad thing, but what makes or breaks an android phone is the operating system support.

I am leaning more towards the Xtreamer Aiki, simply because it's foundation is the operating system support:

The specs are a bit lower than the E8, but long term you are much better off.

Unless Esquire cares to elaborate on the long term support on their Geeko device (that does not even feature on the Geeko website)

thanks Species - I also have a feeling there will be no support or FW updates

The Xtreamer specs are unfortunately lower than the Geeko

Still no feedback from Esquire - I think you're right, the Geeko is probably a rebranded china phone - If only Esquire could tell us which it is, then one could perhaps find more support on the internet....

If I don't hear from Esquire by Monday afternoon, I'm walking away from this option

no news from Esquire?

I can only assume the user manual is so basic, that it would put one off...

Hello Bundu

you are 100% correct the manual is extremely basic and actually written in Chinglish , to honest we did not have time re-write the manual , the unit is a standard Android 4.04 Tablet Smart Phone from a very huge manufacturerin China that produces products such as Tablets , GPS’s Digital Camera’s and host of other Digital Lifestyle products mainly for a number of OEM brands, they do not have a proper website as they only manufacture where each OEM uses their own model numbers like we did with Geeko Smart , Geeko Premium , and Geeko Junior.

I would like to give you an opportunity to get one at a special price of R 1599.00excl including a 16GB MicroSD which is at almost our cost and also to get your valued opinion on the product.
The product is fantastic as we already getting repeat orders from our resellers after they bought the first one on launch promotion we did last week
The current price for the unit is now at R 1999.00 without the 16GB Micro SD a days but even without the MicroSD bundle it still offers great value.

thanks for the feedback and generous offer Esquire!
I'm busy looking at some other models as well and will definitely let you know if I decide to take you up on the offer - thanks again!

The resolution of that screen is awful. Cool that is has dual SIM though.

They are pretty nice for the price..

Pros: Price, very usable, better build than previous Geeko
Con: Resolution, 512mb Ram

Its not buttery smooth like a premium model smartphone / tablet (Phablet). But you can overlook that due to the fact its so reasonably priced and can perform exactly the same functions as any other models out there. Dont buy this thinking you can comapare it to those premium brands, thats not fair to the device imo. Compare it to other cheap phablets on the market, and this one is certainly one of the better ones.

Got one of the 7 inch tablets in December(Junior?), and I am very happy with it.

Kudos to Esquire for at least putting somethings in the market.
The alternative would be a self-import or bid/buy/crossfingers type purchase.

Esquire, if Bundu didn't take you up on the offer i certainly will ;)

You most welcome to get one at the special price; in fact we will do 10units exclusive to MyBB members at this price.

how does the weight of this compare to the 1st generation device that you brought in last year.

also how do the specs compare - screen, processor, memory, storage?

Screen is extremely smooth , memory still has the 512MB internal memory with 4GB Nand Flash for applications, Storage is depended on the MicroSD

we have never claimed that it is superior unit but for the price and features it is excellent value for money.

EDIT already sold 371 units and zero comebacks thus far.

Hi Esquire.

I am also interested in this phone. Do you know if there are any custom roms that will run on this hardware? Naturally looking for "geeko rom" does not help, as you said, they are rebranded OEM devices.

Right now it looks cool, but I want to know if I can load Android 6,7,10? on it 2 years from now :)

Hi Esquire

I would like to second this request. I have the 1st generation device and would like to:

1. Root the device
2. Install a custom rom.

so any help from your techs would be appreciated.

Thanks

EDIT - It was mentioned sometime back (on this forum) that Esquire were looking into OS upgrades for these. Havent heard anything in interim.
Any news on that?

Since owning an Acer tablet I'm skeptical of what apps these devices can handle, with the Acer I often found that when I wanted to install some apps and especially games it said not compatible with your device

Never had any issues with my ipads.

with my Samsung galaxy s3, i get those messages all the time. I recently saw that message even AFTER i had already installed Bejeweled Blitz for Android. So I think that 'compatible' message has a lot to do with what market google wants the content to be available.
I stand corrected as always but I think there is more to that 'compatible' note from Google than a technical compatibility.

Hello Bundu

Could someone perhaps tell me where I can find a Jelly Bean image for the Geeko E8? Or which other device's image will also work? The ICS on the device looks pretty vanilla, so it should be out there?
