Thought I'd give a heads up on the special Esquire is running on the SCX-3200 @ R699 excl.

They ran this special earlier this year but as I couldn't find it in the price list I lost interest. Anyhow a client had a low volume B/W laser printer pack in yesterday and I thought I'd check this out as a possible replacement as Esquire ran the special again today.

1) Phone Esquire PE, confirm they have stock and place a verbal order with sales as it's not on the online order system.

2) Collect printer.

3) Attach printer to Fedora 14 system, download, install and run Samsung Unified Driver (SUD).

4) :wtf: MFP works with no fiddling whatsoever - CUPS and Sane.:wtf:

Will I recommend it to my client - no, the running costs are bit too high; but for the Linux user looking for a cheap MFP it could be the answer. I haven't tested it but I believe it's OK on Ubuntu as well although the Arch guys have reported problems.

Note that this is a EOL printer but at this price it's worth considering.

Edit: Forgot to mention this a PCL5e printer so lpr -o raw printing is possible - SUD installation backs up /usr/bin/lpr to /usr/bin/lpr.orig and replaces it with the SUD version (inserts a "Print Window"), reverting to the original lpr does not seem to create problems.
