My technical level rivals that of 95% of store clerks, sales people or their bosses.
Esquire provides me with the opportunity to buy without the HASSLE that stores like Chris's present me.
Those hassles I'll list for you here:
1) I need to order and wait for stock
2) I need to pay higher prices for absolutely no value added
3) When I need to return something they want to "test" it themselves using inferior techniques. Let me clarify here, testing a hard-drive in Windows using chkdsk and vice versa doesn't constitute a test. When I test something I use the tools provided by the manufacturer which produces an RMA paper. I then hand that RMA paper to whomever I bought it from. No further testing is needed. The manufacturer tool already shows the device as defective. Similarly if I tested a CPU in Prime95 or memory in Memtest they are faulty (faulty memory can also be seen in Prime95). Any person who disagrees that a fail in those test means a hardware problem shouldn't call themselves a technician (IE. they don't know about those tools and are therefore lack the skills required).
Esquire give MyBB users this opportunity because there are people here that rival just about all stores out there in terms of technical knowledge whether these stores want to admit it or not. To your store clerk it is a day job, to me it is a hobby and I spend many hours on research and I have a BSc(CS) degree behind me also. I really don't need help choosing, or diagnosing problems. Your store adds 0 value.
Can you say the same about your store clerk, if not, don't waste our time by saying that you provide a service.
I know this post sounds arrogant but in all honesty I'm not alone here, others here have degrees in fields that touch on computer hardware and spend many hours on research also. These stores live in a fantasy where they provide a service when they are a hassle. If we could we would build PCs for a living, unfortunately there are other professions that pay more.
It is a fast moving field. The only way someone can stay ahead is with constant research and interest. Something most people don't even show in their day jobs (eg. 95% of stores clekcs, owners, etc).
