Hold on people. You don't seem to understand how a farm works.

There is a minimum rate that the government lays down. If your workers are fed, clothed and housed these rates drop drastically.

The kid getting R300 a month is minus the breakfasts, lunches, suppers, clothes, water, lights and a roof over their head.

Go talk to any farm worker and they will never complain about their pay, they know the life they are getting on the farm is a lot better than if they were somewhere else earning triple that without all the perks.

As I've said, you cannot force someone to work on your farm, there are a lot of them that live there but don't work because they are family of a worker. If the kid didn't want to work he could've gone somewhere else and still had a place to sleep.

Idiots. I started working on weekends to make extra cash at the age of 15 in a caf'e. I loved having extra cash in my pocket. If COSATO told me at that age I'm not allowed to work I'd have told them to get stuffed.

Good grief, enough about all the speculations, let ET rest in peace. I know the guy does not have a favorable history, but one thing I know is that he loved this country dearly, he wouldn't want to see SA in the state that it is in right now. All these mumblings don't benefit anyone, black or white.
