Is there anywhere else where I can purchase an ethernet cable for a cheaper price other than the R290 Nowire is charging?

err.. WHAT R290??! Dude, print out this page, waltz into your nearest BBZ shop (after 1st calling ahead to make *DAMN* sure they have stock), and wave the very bottom of the printout (likely to be a 2 page printout- do both so they can't help but see the masthead) under the nose of the manager and insist on your consumer right to buy at their advertised price

 this is JUST the kind of dumbass thing that gets me going - maybe you'll be more inclined to go in all nice and quiet-like; me, I'd go in looking for a fight and a dressing down (me of them for generally being dumbasses, lying to me AND trying to cheat me, but then I get ..excitable :( )

Actually, seeing as I have a "WaRT"(54G ..name coined by a bud) I'm VERY fond of (and abusing from time to time), I do rather need one. What got my goat this last time was having to buy *another* one 'cos I managed to lose the previous new one I'd bought! ..of course, if I ever manage to find the verk4kte thing I'll have a spare I can sell without doing my usual thing of depriving myself of MY one! :p

Go to Component Sources in Midrand (Office Complex on Old PTA road - above Teasers ;) and buy a 100 metre roll of Cat5e for about R130

Connectors are cheap and are easy to crimp yourself if you have a crimping tool....

...and, right on cue, is the seemingly inevitable posting by someone not paying enough attention to see that this is the MyWi forum and we're talking about the *custom, made ONLY for Sentech modems* Ethernet cable, notnotNOT good ol' CAT5 and RJ45 action! *fume*

Went to their website and the qouted price is R225.Spoke to a support guy called Mark and he told me R290.Now just called again and spoke to another consultant who says its R195.Well, he says when I get to their office I should ask for him(gave me his name) ...There you have it ladies and gents. The saga continues in THE DAYS OF OUR BROADBAND...

OK, *now* would be an ideal time to go buy that cable, seeing that you're all nice and calm :D

bdt, your expertise required, please: In an effort to (eventually) force Bbz to drop their prices on custom hardware: Would it be POSSIBLE to stick a Usb-Ethernet converter on the Mywireless Usb connector cable and use it on a "WaRT"? (I know the converters ain't cheap either, but at least there's the chance of buying it from ELSEwhere!) But... would it work?

Guys, cables like this can be made for a fraction of the price... if its a cable, you can make it... R300 or similiar is way too much to pay for a cable

Guys, I asked my good friend RoDent about this one and he set me straight! So apologies from my side! /me eats humble pie

I can categorically tell you that you cannot use the USB cable with a cat5 adapter or anything like that. For those who are reading this forum looking for a way out of buying that ethernet cable - THERE ISN'T ONE! I have been down this road a long way and just ended up with blisters. Just save yourself some time and go buy the cable. I have even investigated getting them made up and stripped a cable to find out what lives inside that plastic housing (a small circuit board if you are interested) but even the specialist cable places scratch their heads at that one. You WON'T make this cable up for that price. However, unless prices have gone up a LOT, they should be around about R200. I can't remember 100% but R290 is definately too high.
