Getting fiber broadband soon and I plan to connect my desktop and TV box using a Ethernet cable, also at a later stage I was thinking of sharing my internet with my neighbor, so will be running a Ethernet cable from my house to his and then put a wireless router there.
My question is where can I find a roll of cheap ethernet cable ? I need around 40 meters for now and might need another 40 meters later.

Go to your local computer repair shop. I got a roll of hundred metres for quite cheap a year back from the local shopping centre's pc repair store.

What area are you in - if in CT i can help you out with cable..

Where are you based? Do you have a crimping tool or are you looking for a made-up cable?

For a 100m 'box' you are looking at about R175 for cheap CAT5e copper coated aluminium, R295 for outdoor cable and R525 for solid CAT5e.

Don't have a crimping tool as of now but I can buy one and crimp my own.
Thanks for pointing that out I will be needing the rj45 connectors too.

I bought 200m of Cat5e Shielded UV Protected Solid Copper Core cable with 50 RJ45 plugs and 50 RJ45 boots for R1700 from Scoop earlier in the year for my home LAN and CCTV. I know they have cheaper options if you don't need high quality CAT5 cable...

I am fine with the 100m cheaper option. Where can I buy it in cape town ?

Hmmm, so you are running a copper cable from your property with its own 220VAC supply and earth potential to a neighboring property. There you will terminate onto a device powered by a different 220VAC supply and its own earth potential. Watch out for electrical ground loops here

I was thinking of running a Ethernet from one free port on my router, to my neighbors house where it will be connected to a second router.
That's how it was done in India - Mumbai where I am from, but it was for a residential complex, one apartment to another in the same building.
I don't know about earth potential, can u please explain ?

I got Matrix to make up 2 cables for me 1 x 25 m and 1 x 35 m. Took them about 15 minutes and cost around R325.00

I also use Matrix as they're super cheap, even with labour

Always go with solid copper cable where possible. CCA just isn't worth it in the long run. Not sure about elsewhere, but the Matrix near me only sells CCA, and the staff didn't even know their was a difference when I asked.

which one should I buy ?? I can buy the outdoor one and still use it indoors right ? is there any real difference between CAT6 and CAT5E for home use??

i would suggest the CCA UTP cable but put it in conduit ;-)

I am going to setup my router in the kitchen (because its in the center of the house).
First stage is running 2 Ethernet cables from there to my lounge(for android box) and to the bedroom (my study).
Do I require a conduit for this too or only for the outside cable connection that I will be doing at a later stage.
