Hi guys :)

Can someone please advise on the above. My specs are in my sig. I use iburst and unfortunately there's no 64bit drivers for the software provided, so ethernet is the other option. Using the onboard one is plagued with disconnects and the installation of the latest mobo drivers have proved unsuccessful. I refuse to do another format and re-installation:sick:

I'm in Durban and I would like to get an ethernet card @ a reasonable price. Can someone please point me in the right direction. Was thinking of PC Zone, but is there another option perhaps?

Thank you all in advance :)

Happy holidays and a prosperous new year.

what do you mean by 'disconnects'?

I'll be in the midst of a dload & it'll just freeze. I've encountered this problem previously, bought a card from a forumite which later packed up. I then reverted to 32bit for a while and realised that 64bit is the way to go. I was told that the nVidia firewall is the culprit with installing the drivers, but leaving that feature out hasn't solved any problem.

So the best bet would be to go with a separate ethernet connection altogther :(

any local computer shop should be able to sell you an ethernet card. There is really not much difference unless you are looking for a Gigabit card. The Realtek ones are just fine and they are known for their stable drivers.

Thanks Garyvdh, when I was in PTA earlier this year a PC shop in Woodlands Mall had a card for R 140 if memory serves me. Would that price be more or less the same now?

If you just want a 100mb card I think they're even cheaper than that, about R80.

Ja, depends where you buy. About R80 to R150.00.

What are u dwnlding? I've never seen a nic fail during dwnlds, they usually just go dead.

There were some complaints about the Nvidia Active Armor hardware firewall built into nForce 4 motherboards, it caused corruption of data and also led to these disconnects. Nvidia actually stopped the feature after nForce 4, it didn't reappear on later chipsets as far as I know.

Get a Realtek card, they work well and stably enough. Intel or 3Com are also good but they a little more pricey.

That is true. Anyway I got a D-Link card from PC Zone today for R 69. Now a silly question but would it work on 64 bit? All, well most of them, are 32bit.

depends if you can find 64 bit drivers. Did you look on the CD and Google for them?
