The 2014 Toyota Etios Cross was unveiled earlier this year at the Delhi Auto Show, making it the first crossover the automaker has launched on the Indian market.

2014 Toyota Etios Cross detailed

Although derived from the Etios hatchback, the new Cross is slightly bigger and has a bold front grille, stylish diamond cut alloy wheels, and plastic mouldings that surround its body. The car also comes with a higher suspension, skid plates front and back, roof rails, and dynamic rear cladding with badging.

Inside, you’ll find things like steering wheel with audio buttons, USB/Aux/Bluetooth compatible sound system, driver and passenger airbags as well as safety systems like ABS and EBD.

The Etios Cross will be available with the same standard 1.5-litre engine found in the hatchback model, delivering 66 kW and 132 Nm. Power will be sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. Fuel consumption is estimated to be just above the claimed 6.0-litre/100 km for the hatchback.

2014 Toyota Etios Cross price in South Africa

The Etios Cross is said to be priced from R159 800. We’ll be driving the 2014 Toyota Etios Cross in the coming weeks. Look out for its driving impression.

To make you feel like you can be a pavement warrior, without actually giving you the option of doing so.

Looks a bit better than the normal Etios which is bleh.

whats the point of this car? is it for dirt roads like the Fiat uno way?

or is it an expensive options package?

We love SUVs in this country, so these give you that pseudo-SUV feel, without the size/ ride compromise. I would guess mostly, as you said, for dirt roads etc. Not saying I agree with this, but I see why they're around. Manufacturers pretty much make an SUV type vehicle for every cost bracket there is.

So to clarify you get better height to park on higher surfaces and can drive harder on dirt roads. Brilliant vehicle for those new drivers and first time car buyers. Yes they look ugly but are practical for SA roads with potholes.

Are they heavier than the standard versions as these vehicles tend to sway alot when you drive them over 120km/h?
