EU launching second investigation into Temu

Temu is at risk of being fined for breaching European Union consumer-protection law, adding to the e-commerce platform’s regulatory problems a week after the bloc opened a separate investigation into whether it’s doing enough to combat illegal sales.

The European Commission and national regulators, including Belgium, Germany and Ireland, jointly demanded that the platform halt “problematic practices” that have the potential to mislead consumers and are in violation of the EU’s product safety rulebook, it said in a statement on Friday.

In other news...

The European Commission and national regulators, including Belgium, Germany and Ireland, have “problematic practices” that mislead consumers and citizens of Europe.

They all want to sell Temu stuff at 250% more.

Nope.

This is what they have a problem with. And I agree. TEMU would be a million times better without all the scammy type crap which requires you to read every word in detail.

I mean I literally received one single knee pad after I assumed they come in pairs, like any normal person would, and how it was shown on the pictures.

Key elements of the CPC Network's coordinated action

The CPC Network identified several types of problematic practices on Temu, which they consider to be in breach of EU consumer protection laws, such as:
  • Fake discounts: Giving the false impression that products are offered with a discount where there is none.
  • Pressure selling: Putting consumers under pressure to complete purchases using tactics like false claims about limited supplies or false purchase deadlines.
  • Forced gamification: Forcing consumers to play a ‘spin the fortune wheel' game to access the online marketplace, while hiding essential information about the conditions of use linked to the rewards of the game.
  • Missing and misleading information: Displaying incomplete and incorrect information about consumers' legal rights to return goods and receive refunds. Temu also fails to inform consumers in advance that their order needs to reach a certain minimum value before they can complete their purchase.
  • Fake reviews: Giving inadequate information about how Temu ensures the authenticity of reviews published on its website. National authorities found reviews which they suspect to be unauthentic.
  • Hidden contact details: Consumers cannot easily contact Temu for questions or complaints.

I do not agree with this at all.

Item photos, descriptions, and specs are there to read. Product photos are in the reviews, and no need to analyze fine print before spending R150

Dropshippers and other local scammers are crying like babies. Now everyone can see what their product is actually worth and where it came from.

No tears from me.

If they want to investigate someone, have a go at AliExpress. Now there's a place advertising blatant fake products, incomplete specs and details, etc etc.

I wonder why nobody has a stiffy for them.

Temu do send crap. I ordered 10 of a 4-pack: USB-C to USB-B adaptors. The picture shows 4 items - USB-C to USB-B full size, USB-B micro, USB-B mini and USB-C to USB-A

Instead, they send 40 USB-C to USB-B micro

On complaining, they used the argument that the correct quantity had been supplied and could not assist further

Log a return for refund.
You make it sound like you now have to keep the stuff lol

TEMU said a return is not justified as the correct goods were sent and they are not faulty
I have logged two returns in the past 2 weeks after it arrived, both times I just said I don't want it anymore. The product does not need to be faulty or anything. Got refund (not credit) 3 days after the pickup happened.
