Well these are what the rules are:

TIE-BREAKER RULES :
If two or more teams finish equal on points after all the group matches have been played, the following criteria will be applied to determine the ranking :

(a) Greater number of points obtained in the matches between the teams in question.
(b) Goal difference resulting from the matches between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal).

So, it's not head-2-head or group goal difference, but the goal difference between the teams on equal poits and the goal difference between their respective matches.

So say Holland win 2-0 tonight.

Then Denmark would've scored 3 goals and conceded 3, Portugal would've scored 3 goals and conceded 4 and Holland would've scored 2 goals and conceded 1. (this is for games played between Holland, Denmark and Portugal only, Germany games not included)

So it would be Denmark: 0, Portugal: -1 and Holland: +1 which means Holland goes through? Correct?
 
Huh?? The first part is the head-to-head. If Holland beat Portugal and Portugal then have 3 points and so do Holland, Holland go through on head-to-head. Goals do not come into it.

This is also how I understand it. Only if they draw will goals, GD, etc. come into the equation.

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings (according to paragraphs 8.07 and 8.08 of the regulations, and amendment to 8.07 adopted by the UEFA Executive Committee):[42][43]
Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points);
Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points);
If, after having applied criteria 1 to 3 to more than two teams, two teams still have an equal ranking, criteria 1 to 3 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the two teams in question to determine the final rankings of the two teams. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 5 to 10 apply in the order given;
Superior goal difference in all group matches;
Higher number of goals scored in all group matches;
If two teams which are tied in all criteria 1 to 6 play their last group match against each other (i.e., the result is a draw and the two teams have the same number of points, goal difference and goals scored), and provided no other teams within the group have the same number of points, the ranking of the two teams in question is determined by penalty shoot-out. Otherwise, criteria 8 to 10 apply in the order given;
Position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system;
Fair play conduct of the teams (final tournament);
Drawing of lots.

So screwed up... if Germany loses to Denmark and Portugal beats Netherlands

Denmark tops the group and Germany goes through second... wtf
 
If Germany beat Denmark and Holland beat Portugal then Denmark, Holland and Portugal are all on 3 points. Holland will go above Portugal due to head to head, but then won't Denmark go above Holland due to head to head?

That's why Greece went above Russia despite having a lower goal difference. That would mean Holland can't make it through then?

Holland's defense has been horrible. Bad passing galore. Willems has been especially bad.

2 goals in the 2nd half is a tall order. The way Portugal are playing, they're going to score again.
 
Wow there have been shockers lately... Russia out and Netherlands out. When I first saw the group I thought Denmark and Portugal wouldn't make it through.
 
I'm glad the Dutch are out. Bunch of great players individually but can't play as a team.

GERMANY!!! THEY JUST KEEP WINNING :D
 
He's got an abundance of great attacking players but just never used them.

Holland have always had in house disturbances between players, but Van Marwijk was really bad at handling it.

I'd love for Van Basten to come back. The football they played under him was amazing.

Either way this was Holland's last chance for a while. Come 2014 their main players will be past it.

Spain also use the cobra trick, except in their case the are the cobra. :D
 
Spain vs Crotia yawn... that was the most boring football I've ever seen... keep the ball for 80 min no goal on comes Jesus and Boom GOAL!

Seriously who wants to watch 90 min of passing the ball to each other... oh wait I almost did :p
