Euro 2016

One day an England manager will select a squad based on merit and not on what they done 12-months ago and then they'll actually win a game that counts.

Imagine if Woy could've turned to a Drinkwater-Vardy connection when chasing a goal?

Townsend/Antonio on for some proper width and crossing ability and not have to watch rubbish Sterling?

A proper midfielder in Noble instead of Rooney?

de Foe to try and nick you an equaliser? He only just kept Sunderland in the Premier League.

Are you high? Pick on merit. This is England ffs.

If they appoint Brendan then the fa as a whole must fsuck off. I reckon all of them must go anyway because of this woy fiasco.

I sometimes wonder how much the English press influence managers and their decisions...

Woy got in wong.

The players in the squad could have beaten Iceland.

He selected the wrong team, wrong formation, wrong strategy.

The English are not technically good enough to win anything any time soon.
Foreign players in the EPL add the glitz and the glamour......

Give Iceland credit, they played with passion and pride....something the English only afford to their club allegiances.

It's the FA. Change the managers, change the players but the same rotten structure set up by and maintained by the FA remains. Hence the performances stay the same.

Last nights match is a glimpse of what the EPL could be without immigrants.

Indeed the Iceland performance was great but lets not get ahead of ourselves :erm:

''One day'' doesn't mean it will happen anytime soon, indeed if ever.

Nope. African, South American, Asian, Australasian and North American stars continue to ply their trade in England. The only thing that changes is that there won't be so many young, uncapped players from Europe in English sides and youth systems, which if we are honest here, would likely benefit England long-term in terms of developing talent. Instead of going out and signing an 18-year old Portuguese player you now need to find an 18-year old domestic talent. You will however continue to be able to sign the 26-year old German that features for his country though.

The press go through multiple stages from what I've witnessed in the past 8 major tournaments, but I don't think they influence decisions.

Stage 1 - Coach announces his squad. Press immediately comes up with their ''Best XI not chosen by the gaffer'' and ''Is Player One fit enough to go to the World Cup?''

Stage 2 - The media, after telling everyone the squad selected was poor and more deserving players were omitted, then proceeds to tell everyone that England are suddenly one of the favourites and starts backing the coach. ''Why this is the best England team since '66'', ''Player Ten can lead England to glory!'' and ''Coach has assembled a complete squad''.

Stage 3 - England win their warm-ups and the hype gets unreal. ''England peaking at the right moment!'', and' 'Is this the year?''

Stage 4 - England lose on penalties in the first knockout round, the press turn and usually try to vilify someone. ''Coach never seemed to be convincing'', ''Poor tactics doom England from the start'', ''Did Player Seven cost us the Cup?'' and ''Why Player Ignored should've been there instead of Player One''.

So in the EPL how many English players play in the crucial play making positions?

So in the EPL how many English players play in the crucial play making positions?

Considering they were undone by a goalkeeping error and poor marking from a set-piece, I put it to you that it doesn't matter what their play-makers are like.

England have a good enough team, they don't have a good enough coach and the bloody-mindedness that teams like Iceland and Italy bring to the field.

I don't profess to be an expert but England looked like they arrived to beat a pub side and when it went wrong and the pub side scored 2 goals they just had no plan to play to, it was just panic and kick aimlessly, it was like 11 strangers who had never met were given team shirts and told to go and kick the ball about.

I thought it was over after the England goal.....for a couple of minutes

This is a 10 year problem, not just this tournament.
