I think they were just unlucky that France scored at key moments of the game. The soft penalty when they seemed to be on top deflated Germany. Then the Manuel Neuer mistake when it seemed an equaliser was inevitable.

Hummels is a central defender. He plays alongside boateng. He's not a game maker. He is a very good defender, if not one of the best in the world at this moment.

With him being suspended and boatengs early exit, the game was over there and then already.

Boateng has a very good view point of the field and where the players are. He can make some deadly long ball passes.

And with mueller's current performance, it would've been better to perhaps had Gomez play from the start. Shuerle would've even done a better Job. He's a little weasel, and can out dribble the French tall and heavy defenders. Mueller can't.

Ps. Griezmann played very well. What a talent that boy is.
