EU's attack on Android boosts rival app developers

Google’s latest European Union woes could mean opportunity knocks for app developers stymied by contracts that pre-install the U.S. giant’s own services on Android phones and tablets, according to analysts and companies.

The Alphabet Inc. unit is expected to face an antitrust fine over Android in the coming days that could top last year’s record 2.4 billion-euro ($2.8 billion) penalty for shutting out rivals to its shopping search service.

It would be awesome if regulators around the world forced Google and Apple to unbundle their stock apps. Bloatware must die already. It's one of the main reasons I originally bought a OnePlus One and got into rooting. Samsung especially goes so hard with the list of system apps that it's outrageous.

Amen to that, EU should call for unbundling of all bloatware, because the OEMs also enjoy the same advantage as Google in that people end up using want came with the device. They must allow us to choose what app we want to use.

The EU has a hate boner for Google. Apple gets away with far more in terms of locking people into their ecosystem and forcing them to use their rubbish apps.
