Hi Guys,

I'm keen to get your view on what points to consider when evaluating a Wireless Internet Service Provider... Take WAPA as an example - they list a number of providers, however... what questions would I ask to filter out the Good ones from the Not so good ones... OR, are all of them good?

Help me, to help you.

Schaweet!

Hello

WAPA is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the public and wireless providers in South Africa.

WAPA members are wireless providers who are licenced (WAPA assists them in obtaining a licence if they are not),and to abide by a fair 'Code-of-Conduct' (see it here.)

WAPA members are also informed of the latest regulatory matters so they conform to the regulations and the law. Many Wireless providers are deemed 'cowboys' because they are unaware of the regulations and ethical means of running a wireless network. WAPA aims to change this notion by converting these WISPs into bona-fide Wireless Internet Service Providers.

The public is served by ensuring their Wireless Provider is affiliated with WAPA and abiding by this code-of-conduct. If your Wireless Provider is not a WAPA member, then urge them to become members ASAP. More info on how to do that can be obtained from here.

If any Wireless Service Provider is doing the public/customer a disfavour, WAPA will intervene.

WAPA is also in the process of becoming an IRB (Industry Recognised Body) which means that it in in the interest of all Wireless Providers to become WAPA members now.

Keep up to date in WAPA progress from its Press Office on My Broadband

For any questions, the public can contact WAPA with details on the WAPA website.

We're also willing to work with WhichVoIP to make the (wireless) internet industry in South Africa a better place :)
