Hi Guys

I have neotel uncapped unlimited...
for the first few days it was flying, getting dl speeds of 800kbs plus on speedtest.net

since friday, i can only connect at 1x...
my modem initially says EVDO...as soon as i hit the connect button it attempts to connect then falls to 1x and connects...

Has anyone experienced this problem ? Any ideas on why this happends ?

Restart your phone.
Press and hold power, and it will switch of and restart again if the mains are plugged in.
You will have EVDO connection again.
 
No EVDO connection

I have been experiencing the same problems (also in Midrand)

On Sunday Neotel was conducting maintenance and since that the connection has been problematic. I have been through call after call with Neotel with no resolution. The same symptoms, full EVDO signal until the computer is registered on the Neotel network. The signal slowly deteriorates until x1 is only available.

The suggestions were as follows:

1. Reboot phone and PC (Standard answer each day)
2. Firewall problems. (Has been disabled)
3. Delete all internet caches.(???)
4. Virus (I don't know how this affects the signal changing from EVDO to x1)
5. Faulty handset.

Finally after struggling with this until 24.12.2008 a call was logged with the technical department.

But seeing as there have been other problems in Midrand with the same issues surely this is not limited to one computer or handset and should be followed up by Neotel.

I will now be calling them three times a day and remind them that there are other users with the same problems.
 
Well, I have had Neotel for 4 days and so far it is the biggest piece of **** I have ever seen. The call center is absolutely useless. I have not been able to connect since this morning and have been told, it will get fixed sometime and you will get an email when it does.

On the other hand I asked the guy about cancelling as it is clearly not working and was told it will cost me R1920 to cancel. I have only had it for 3 days. that means 25% of the time it has not been working.

Sorry Neotel, you are a bunch of crooks and it feels like even worse than telkom :(

There is a 7 day return period. If you get now where - log it on hellopeter.

Hound the call centre - its a free call! If you do not get anywhere ask to speak to the manager.

Seems I'm now having the same problem. Since about 23h30 last night, my modem has also been switching from EVDO to 1X when I connect. Speedtest.net gives a ping of 999 ms and a max download speed of 134kbps. Web sites sometimes fail to load and my overall Neotel experience at the moment is horrible.

Just called the helpdesk, no real help there. I need to wait until the network guys get in to work.
 
I finally have coverage both at work and at home. So I come to the forums to double check on how Neotel are doing before signing up. Between the Neotel Charges for overhead and this thread it sounds terrible. From the stories I have heard they sound like the new Sentech.

Is anybody happy with their service? gees. I am more unsure now than when I began to investigate them...

You have to have patients when using Neotel. I am on the uncapped package and I am downloading more now, than I ever did with iburst. The problem is that you have to monitor the connection and the latency is horrible. Upload speed is also not worth it. If you want it purely for downloads, and you are willing to check on the phone every hour or so, then I would say go for it. Otherwise, don't waste your time.

After 2 days at 130kbps, Neotel decided to swap out my phone. The whole delivery process went very well. I was kept informed about the delivery status and the staff involved at Neotel and Skynet were very professional. Unfortunately, I can't log onto the net with the new device to test if the fault still exists. Apparently my username and password are no longer valid on the network.

I'm now waiting for one of the Neotel techies to look into it. The helpdesk staff, while very friendly and polite, were not much help. I just hope the original EVDO to 1X problem was a result of the device and not something else.

Edit: I'm posting this using my prepaid 384kbps ADSL account.

The problem was a device error.
After being swapped out with a new one...speeds are back at evdo.

Same here. Just got back from collecting my device at Neotel Head Office and I'm pleased to report that I am back at broadband speeds. Unfortunately, my ports have been blocked again and I've requested they be re-opened, but that's a minor issue.

problem has been fixed after changing device :)

Less than 48 hours with the new device and I'm back to 1X. Top speed this morning is 136kbps:mad: Now I have to go through all the **** with the Neotel helpdesk again!!

you are not alone , also got the problem again less then 24hrs , now im back to 1X also , wonder whats actually the problem?:(

What is going on ?

this is crazy...for all the time i had this ISP i spent more time quering and swapping out than anything else...

Are all their devices just faulty....

Have you guys also requested ports being opened ? Is it a co-incidence that this happened twice after the ports where opened on a new device ?

Neotel Rep where are you ? Answers please !
