EVGA Cards Any good?

They are very close, the GTX260 has more bandwidth but GDDR3, where the HD4890 runs GDDR5. I would go with the HD4890, my wife has one and it is really good. I have the GTX280 and that HD4890 is not so far behind. I think you should just look which is cheaper :) http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=608&card2=577 the GTX260 migh be a little ahead on some things, but not much. Also you need to see which Version you are looking at, usually there will be a standard clock, Over Clocked and Superclocked versions.... (that would be for both cards).

HD4870 beats the GTS250
HD4890 beats the GTX260

HD4870=GTX260

Go for the HD4870 or GTX260, whichever is cheaper. They seem to be the best price vs performance. If you only play at lowish res a HD4850 for about R1350 is the best buy.

A gts250 = a 8800gt rebranded to 9800gt rebranded again (ie same chip different packaging)

HD4870 = GTX260

No no no a GTS250 = a 9800GTX+/9800GTX/8800GTX

The 8800GT rebranded was the 9800GT...still a level under the GTS250

Sigh. The 4850 performs on par with the 250. The 4870 murders it. The 4870 performs on the level of the 260.

kelevra, the HD4870 is way way better than a GTS250. it really will kill it. just google for reviews and compare the benchmarks.

websites like www.tomshardware.com and www.guru3d.com will definitely have reviews on both cards, but the 4870 is def better.

go here: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-charts-2009/benchmarks,54.html

to compare benchmarks for multiple games and multiple resolutions, u'll see the 4870 comes out on top of the GTS250 by a big margin in everything really.
