Exactly how bad is SA's Broadband?

you would think that with the fifa world cup around the corner, SA would be more excited to boosts the countries broadband policy and pricing structure.

It's sad........ to discuss the latency the download speed even unstable

61 out of 66 hmmm . . . it could have been worse :D How on earth your country managed to develop such a good road network yet you don't manage to get your act together when it comes to internet :D how interesting.

Yet another study that tells us what we already know and have known for decades.

Someone needs to do a study of how many studies have told us this already, and for how many years it's been swept under the carpet.

When it comes to roads we don't have a hope in h3ll to reach 61st out of 66. Even Namibia will be well ahead of South Africa!

Yip.

We all know it. We fight to get better internet, but our goverment rather spent R2m on cars....

Actually a 4MB ADSL line in South Africa compares pretty well to a 4MB ADSL line in the UK, at least in Cape Town. Always get full speed on mine and never had a problem. It's just price that's the issue.

The moment LLU happens, people like me will finally have the speed some of you take for granted.

Stuck with 384k, because telkom won't upgrade the DSLAM near me...

We are held back solely by telkom...

Leave the country already telkom...You like investing all over Africa, but not at home...

so... to sum up it's still cheaper to fly to Hong Kong buy a dvd and fly back?

The average download throughput increased by 49% to 4.75 Megabits per second (Mbps) while the average upload throughput increased by 69% to 1.3 Mbps. The global average for latency decreased by 21% to 170 milliseconds.

I would be incredibly ecstatic with average!!! :D

SA finished 60th out of the 66 countries surveyed.

Right. So I knew we would be a shocker in performance otherwise this article would never have been flighted. But what I am concerned about is that in this survey there were 6 other countries who performed worse than our beloved country

Although I would not have thought it possible, I am now required to reset my ideas. But who performed worse than us? Surely it should be declared. I mean we need to know which countries we should strongly consider avoiding if offered job transfer to.

Probably the countries that Telkom is operating in. eg. Nigeria etc...
