Is it possible to creat a sheet in Excel to do the following :

Put my usual 20 x numbers in the sheet and when they announce they announce the results, simply enter those 7 numbers and it checks the 20x numbers automatically highlight the numbers with 3 of the same?

I hate checking ...

It is possible. I will try and work on one later for you and send you a PM

Conditional formatting.

Simply make a list of numbers and make a condition that checks if each cell is equal to one of the winning numbers. If it's equal you can make cell colour green and then check each row for 3 or more green matches.

Of course. In the newer versions of excel you could even use the result numbers as a reference and tell excel to only highlight exact numbers using just formatting. Not on my usual laptop so can't post the exact steps but you should be able to figure it out in the auto-formatting section. Conditional formatting will also work.

Otherwise just place all your numbers into their own cell in each row and you could just do a lookup for each result number - that's the long way around and in fact I'm sure there's an even easier way - just haven't got the time right now to play around...

I haven't played lotto, but you buy 6 numbers and then they choose 6 numbers + bonus, hey?

I made a quick spreadsheet for you using conditional formatting: http://www.bullfrog.za.net/lotto.xls

Winning numbers are green and bonus number is blue.

Put in your range of lotto numbers in the left and winning numbers in the right.

I have allowed for up to 20 tickets, with 6 numbers each.

First ticket:
1st number: cell B3
2nd: cell C3
3rd: cell D3 etc...

The winning numbers for the week works the same.

So one ticket will be filled in horizontally in line 3, second ticket in the line under that etc. It's really quite simple.

The all numbers on the left matching a winning number will be highlighted with the cell turning green or blue (bonus).

ahhh, ok now I get it.

Isn't there some way to enter, for example, 3 or 4 draws winning numbers and have the spreadsheet work out a formula for a next set of numbers you can use ( like working out a trend or formula or something ). Like a spreadsheet that can act as an "auto-pick" feature?

Yes sure you can do that, but you'd need to figure out a formula that makes you win. I'm not a lotto enthusiast, don't support it, never bought a ticket in my life, so I wouldn't even begin to know how to set up a magic winning formula :p

magic winning formula would work nicely ... ;)
