Hello people

City Power have really pushed the envelope when it comes to turning off the geysers with ripple control. They are cutting the supply to the geysers for extreme lengths of time.

In the mornings they turn them off before 7AM, and off again from about 5PM.
We turn our geyser off during the day, every day and last night was the last straw so I bridged the ripple receiver out :mad:

Anyone else experiencing lots of lukewarm-cold water at night?

Don't turn your geyser off man... it messes with the ripple switch.
They are off for most of the day anyway. Just check that your thermostat hasn't broken.

Mine did that the other day... bout 900 to fix

It depends....

If the supply to the ripple receiver is cut, yes then it could cause it to "miss" the command signals.

Power problems coming to your area soon? What would be the reason for switching off otherwise?

The reason to me is clear- they're doing this to alleviate pressure on the national grid. The fools reckon that if they do this they will force us to save electricity. Back when all this crap started they were turning off the streetlights between 7 and 9pm

What I do not understand is why our grid comes under pressure when summer arrives? Look at what happened last year, we also made it through the winter without a single power cut? It does not make sense because if you take the average household's (inc mine) winter month bill and you compare it to a summer month one, the winter consumption is much higher.

@GM

I saw this in September 2006 also, shortly after the Koeberg "bolt" incident. They were doing excessive hot water cuts via ripple control. I found my log files on the old PC I used at the time.

They don't do it on weekends. They do it during the week, most prominently Tuesday-Wednesday.

Maybe with that d1ckhe@d Erwin gone, things might go better soon.
