Sitting here with a 56K modem, and a current dial-up speed of 21.6K - not even the "normal" 28.8 i usually get.
Tried a number of times to get adsl installed.. no luck.
The first excuse I got was:
"but you run copper to the exchange" to which i pointed out that adsl *is* a copper technology... response: "Eish"!
.. list other excuses here...
I eventually found out the real reason... my active line runs thru a DLC (Digital Line Concentrator) which explains the ridiculous speeds from the modem (i get faster connection dialing thru the cell-phone!).
So i tried to get them to test my other line, which used to be diginet, and which has a direct link, no dlc's, no nothing... they wouldnt even consider it!
I work from home mostly, and during the day at that, so the R7 thing doesnt really work for me... and considering what my current phone bill is, isdn isn't an option.
Here's hoping that someday, someone from telkom will get off their *sses, and supply some customer service, instead of telling me I should be lucky to get even 28.8K, i should not even complain if i get 9600bps, cos thats their only guarantee.........
Heres hoping that someday, sometime in the not-too-distant future, we can get some decent telecomms service in this country.
