Exercise Plan

You could also try some of the African herbs FIFA is so worried about.

I enlisted the services of a personal trainer....they know what they're doing.

Ah, the phenomenon of the personal gym trainer, one of the most striking inventions of our time.

If they knew what they were doing why do most PTs look like they've just joined a gym? Or more importantly: why do their customers look the same after years of being personally trained?

In most sports you can only make slow and painful progress without coaching but gymming is just not so complicated. Especially with all the net resources available. What secrets can a pimply teenage PT possibly know?

Or do they only provide a social stimulus to lazy, desorganised bums and bored, attention seeking housewives?

Otoh, provided you finish a course and have the ability to count reps while watching tv, it's a damn good job.

Can you help me?

You don't need to buy books or pay personal trainers. All you have to do is work hard. WTF is the world coming to?

Pooky man..... I've been gymming now for 5 years and guess what - sometimes I look better, sometimes I look worse. It's a long term lifestyle, not a month long confidence booster. You get out of it exactly what you put in. If you have a skinny frame you'll need to add protein to your diet in order to build muscle, and nearly exclusively do heavy weight training. But muscle building is fraught with complication - you'll need to keep it up all the time otherwise it deteriorates into ugly flab. Better to do a balanced set with aerobic and weights combined, and you'll see the results gradually - 6 months is reasonable - but steadily improving.

The normal way with weights is to alternate sets of muscles. One day do upper arms, one day do pectorals, one day do legs or so on - depending on your schedule. Lying down dumbbell presses will build arm muscle like you won't believe - best to have a partner, but I never do and I get by. Rather do free weights than machines.

Good luck - dont give up because you don't see the results immediately. It's a long term commitment you're making.
