So i have Exfoliative keratolysis, I had an outbreak about 2 years back that lasted +- a month and though it was a one time thing, guess not, its back with a vengeance, my hands are looking extremely bad and its honestly quite embarrassing.

There is no cure unfortunately, but I have read the only thing that really helps is Urea 40%, now my question, where can I find this? I have been searching everywhere and cant find it. Google gives a few hits in SA, but non of the sites actually sells the product.

Does anyone else have this dreadful disease, and how and what do you do to cope with it?

At night i use Bio Oil, which seems to help, but during the day it helps buggerol, suppose its because my hands are to active during the day.

You need to try Reconstruction Cream . It's a herbal product made by a company called Herbazone. It works wonders. You cant buy it off the shelf. My wife is an agent, if you want, I can forward her your details.

Ill appreciate that,

I had a look at the ingredients and it does not contain Urea, Are you sure this will actually help for Exfoliative keratolysis ?, Its not a fungal infection, allergic reactions or eczema.

She will confirm with the head pharmacist. Will get back to you.

Ask a pharmacist to make it up for you?

I know you can buy Epimax 10% urea off the shelf.

I have Epimax.

But numerous forums say only 40% is effective.

I have no idea what Urea is, will a pharmacist be able to make it up for me, don't want to sound like an idiot :P

It comes from pee :D:p

Eulactol heel balm has 25% Urea - maybe that's an option?

I would also suggest you look at your diet. Proper 'kookkos" is a good start.

The soap you use can also play a role. That pink stuff in the dispensers irritates the skin on my hands.

Have you tried ointments with Zinc?

Sucks dude. I've been experiencing dyshidrotic eczema the past several weeks on my hands and parts of my feet.

The itching drives me insane, and the dryness and cracking then bleeding of the skin drives me more insane.

And the blisters. omg.. Never had it this bad before in my life. Have used steroid cream, hydrocortisone ointment, moisturising cream and
special soaps for this rubbish and it's still going, albeit not nearly as bad as a few weeks ago.

Hi, I have read it has nothing to do with your diet. With my first outbreak i was on a normal diet (Carbs + Fats). This time round i'm banting. I have taken a multivitamin pill, + Vit C, Omega 3 plus a CLA tab each day for the last 2 months. I also gym 4 times a week (with gloves)
The one thing everyone has in common is, it happens during summer in extreme heat

I also read Zinc worsens it, but will try it on one hand and see what happens.

I'm very fortunate that mine does not hurt, it just peels non stop, layer after layer, my hands feel like sand paper. I'm going on a blind date on Friday, unfortunately she is not blind so i'm sure she is going to think i have melaats or something.

But i'm sorry to hear dude, maybe you should go to a dermatologist, there must be something that can help?

+1

you should try to use real old fashioned soap; or make your own from oil and lye if you can't find some.

You also should probably try to investigate why you have it; instead of treating symptoms.
Proper diet with about 80% raw foods and really good probiotic / fermented foods like kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut etc..

I have seen MANY people with many different skin problems improving vastly with the above

Thanks for your advice, but Please read link : http://healthylifemed.com/exfoliative-keratolysis/
The cause of the disease is unknown. It has nothing to do with diet, there are health fanatics on some of the forums that has the disease.
Using different soaps also wont stop a breakout unfortunately.

If anyone ever stumbles upon this Thread,
The last 3 days I have created a mixture which really seems to help, My hands are looking much much better.
Take 1 part Zam-buk salf http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0323/0737/products/zambuk_60_grande.jpg?v=1420556607
4 - 5 Drops pure tea tree oil
4 - 5 Drops Tissue oil.

Mix this and apply to your hands, I do this every morning and every night before bed.

Its definitely not healed, But it looks day and night better.

Some of the heel balms like Scholl or Kroko contain urea I think.
