I discovered what looks like a large wart on the back on my foot while lounging in the jacuzzi this weekend. Doc says I have exostosis: bone forming on regular bone. So what I thought was a wart is actually a callus but caused by an internal bone poking out and causing friction.

Apparently it's not serious unless it's growing in an odd spot. In my case it's just uncomfortable when I kick up my feet on the desk as I favour my right foot. But I'm going to get back into hiking soon so I'd like to sort it out.

He said it's an expensive and very uncomfortable procedure: R6000 just for the radiation treatment only (this is to stop the bone from regrowing), and then an operation to open the foot and grind down the bone. Lovely

I've emailed Discovery to see if my hospital plan covers this.

Who knew there were illnesses like this?! Anyone care to share if they had this condition?

Thought it was a thread about Ekstasis :o

Wiki page doesn't give much info. What causes it? I want to say excess calcium but I know that would be wrong.

shaw never seen this before :erm:

As mentioned above, I will get localised radiation therapy to stop regrowth. Freaky!

You know that can cause cancers later. Whats the prognosis if you leave it alone?
