Expect a 2% VAT increase

Jesus Christ. 12 pages already.
Missed this one.... too busy upskilling so I can take care of the blacks while skimming a tiny sliver for myself.

" from 15% to 17% from 1 April 2025"

Do that, do whatever the f**k you want 'cause you're going to anyway, also then, I'm out, I'm done here.... whatever it takes.

They'll threaten 2% and people will gnash their teeth, they'll settle on 1% and people will heave a sigh of relief.
Problem is that 1% is not enough to cover what they have stolen and still need to steal. Where is that other "percentage" going to come from. They know it won't come from the economy; they are too lazy and corrupt for that, and there are not enough people to tax. R22.3 billion wil have to come from somewhere and they are too hungry to let it slide.

Sickening.

Then we are in a state like America has been multiple times where we may not have a budget to spend.

The budget is only passed in a vote and not in the speech. What likely happened is they were deliberating up till now with no result.
Interesting, think a lot of us are learning what happens now - I guess that's one way for the DA to force through expenditure cuts... although remind me to go to my bunker when we stop paying public servants..

Well, if they had any brains, they would make vat 50%
They'll make back all their stolen monies in like, a couple of months.

VAT is just taxing people a second time for spending money that was already taxed when they earned it. You should be taxing people for hoarding money in assets instead.

VAT is one of the most difficult to administer and the most arduous taxes on businesses from an admin perspective. South African businesses spend billions each year calculating and filing their VAT returns. VAT should be eliminated entirely.

It is much better to tax wealth that is not active in the economy. Like properties after the second one owned by the same person or entity.
VAT is one of the fairest and simplest to implement. Everyone pays and you can still shield the poor by zero rating basic foodstuffs without excluding anyone from the benefit. PAYE is a nightmare that increases as you earn more and also has many other variables and benefits to include. A few of the wealthier countries tried a wealth tax and it failed with the result being endless court cases as well as making everyone poorer.

Like they say in Afrikaans, hier kom k@k.... The country is going to push back.....
Or this is a ploy to not change anything and then claim the GNU is working and it's all the ANC's idea. We are already past the right side of the Laffer curve where they can't increase tax by increasing rates and I'm sure they know it.

instead of adding 2% to vat, they should add 10% to alcohol, cigarettes, and vapes. that should generate the income they need for whatever they want to waste it on.
Come on, living in this country is only possible if you have a nice buzz going.

So your idea is to punish the South African wine Industry. Most wine farms just about break even as it is. Gud idea.

lol people bitching about 2%, still below first world averages and inline with 3rd world averages. Yes we will be paying more and it sucks, but considering how long we waited before we increased VAT initially and dwindling pool of tax payers, it was inevitable...........

I'm guessing they will now increase vat by 1% and increase income tax.
Like saviour, look we spared you a little bit and we are taxing rich.

Have it on very good authority that we will see a VAT increase of 2% to 17% from 1 April 2025 (bad date for them to choose I agree)
Plenty of ways to stick it to the government, their 2% gain can quickly be recouped by the man on the ground through other means. Tired of being run by a bunch of,... thieving 'Varkers'
