Expect data prices to drop quickly after mobile networks get spectrum

Mobile data pricing remains relatively high in South Africa, although this is somewhat mitigated by competition between mobile operators and a number of unique offers such as Rain’s data-only SIM.

The biggest obstacle to dramatically lowering data prices, though, is the lack of spectrum being made available to mobile networks in South Africa.

MTN has refarmed some of their 900Mhz spectrum already in use for 4G.
However we have not seen any drastic reductions in price.

Mobile Operators lie about spectrum.

Forcing prices down can be done by ICASA

They not doing their Jobs.

Vodafone India sang the same song for years. When Jio entered with agressive pricing.

They now accuse Jio of damaging the data market.

They say- its because they can add additional transmission bandwidth and whatnot
I say- its an excuse to keep at OOB shark and price gouging. They will move onto the next excuse and prices will remain high as they are

But,but...what about all the maintenance / impact on quality of service / able to cover rural areas...the normal spiel of disaster, when approaching the topic of data price drop...
