Expect more from Netflix in SA

This is the view of local technology analyst Arthur Goldstuck

Agree with him for once.

Really does seem like basic "tick-box" launch.

I should hope so. It's outrageous to charge South Africans the same as US customers when our catalogue is miniscule compared to theirs.

That being said, I would pay it just to stick it to Multichoice. The catalogue currently available at less than R200 per month AND it is not going to Naspers makes it worth it.

If you hate Multichoice that much then just use UnoTelly + Netflix + Hulu Plus. You get free access to BBC iPlayer with UnoTelly, and that has loads of British content.

Like Telkom, Multichoice screwed their clients for years... now I believe there's little loyalty left and clients will feel rocks to move to Netflix. On demand, no ads, always available, not forced to watch repeats...

let the games begin.

My DSTV has been canned... Anyone wants a PVR HD decoder?

MyBroadband should write an article comparing Netflix, ShowMax and VIDI (cost vs. content).

For many (probably most) DSTV subscribers, Netflix isn't a replacement. Live sport is the most popular reason for having DSTV.

True, but if sport is the only thing keeping me on DSTV I'd think about cancelling it.

But sport is the main point of DSTV. DSTV is essentially Supersport with stuff thrown in.

Not just about content either. How many TVs and devices does Showmax and Vidi have an app for? This is a big factor when it comes to the viewing experience...

I am loving it and the app on my smart TV is great .

Been a loyal DSTV subscriber for years and years now, no longer. Will sacrifice my sport to save R700 p/m.

Dismal offering in SA, going to use my free trial and then toss it.Will check it out when they announce more stuff.
